Hello everyone, I have just joined this site. Though I count myself competent in the art of argument most of my experience comes from semi-moderated message boards in which true debate is almost impossible. At the moment I am just waiting to pounce on an interesting debate, or if I get really bored I'll instigate one myself!
I am voting for Innomen because of his intelligence, common sense, humility and the fact that Juggle appears to listen to him. Any other Presidential style would have a large sub-section of the site up in arms. If I was President I would destroy the site though elitism, others would let it run riot. Innomen represents a middle way that works, neither draconian nor anarchic and that is the only way things can work. Plus he does it all without ego trips.

With the utmost respect most community websites encourage new members to announce themselves and my post seemed to be as a relevant as many of the others here, which have not incurred personal abuse.

Lol, a lot of Newbs made "Hai I'm a newb look at me!" threads (Which me and others bashed and started a civil war of sorts) . Anyway, posting in a pre-existing thread is enough to confirm your existence.

Why thank you! To be honest with all my years online I should have realised that simply saying 'hi I am new here' would be like a red rag to a bull!

Note: These are not regular forums. We have very little moderation, lack user mods, lack many features, and lack stickies. If we had stickies, we would e them for Newbies announcing themselves. But we don't.

Exactly... so what is the harm in saying hello? When the forums first opened I tried to make a welcome thread (of course I thought it would be stickied...) but obviously that didn't work. Instead of going back through hundreds of topics to find the newest old one concerning introductions, why not just make a new topic? It's not like mods exist to stop him...

@ Britt: It clogs the forums.I'm not a netiquette Nazi, but it is a waste-a-thread

@HaleyDebater: We opened to see what it contained. We then saw it was a forum clogger.

To be fair it is the job of a newbie to barge in and say something stupid/tired/cliched/attack worthy etc... so I've done that and now we can all move on!

A forum clogger?

WTF are you talking about? Are you claiming that this thread drains massive amounts of memory from the website? Wow..

The guy is new and wanted to say Hello. Chill out.

Haha for something so immature, this is getting really intense. :) I do agree that it is stupid to post something like this, but seriously that's what the Newbs do.

A forum clogger lol? Yea I agree with Nags here... make fewer debates entitled "I will not contradict myself" if you're concerned about wasting memory. Ironically, wouldn't it be less of a "forum clogger" if you'd just let it be and not ragged the guy? Just a thought...

Wow, was a <sarcastic>great</sarcastic> welcoming party we have in theitalianstallion and I-am-a-panda. I reported both posts.

Cerebral_Narcissist, welcome to the site. I know just what you mean regarding forums debating. I was getting involved in a lot of debating on the Facebook forums, and it was just out of control. I think you'll enjoy this site despite the handful of curmudgeonly self-appointment forum-rules nazis.

Funny how I-am-a-Panda omitted "Insulting Other Member(s)," which is what I reported him and theitalianstallion for.

Panda, I have made it clear to you before my dislike of your treatment of new members. As long as you continue to exercise your right to belittle new members for disobeying your secret forum laws, I'll exercise my right to report you to the site administrator.

I'm not bashing newbs. I'm simply stating the practicality of:

Creating a new thread to announce yourself vs. Adding to a pre-existing thread.

Both herald your arrival.

I beg to differ. Look at the riff raff that stays here, no matter how mean people are to them>.>

That's because the certain riff raff jumped straight into discussion and didn't bring out a red carpet.

No, no it doesn't. It makes potentially good new members disheartened and offended, and some might even retaliate if their pride is injured too much. Hostility towards new members in inexcusable, and was is the first widespread complaint I saw when I returned. I'm not going to point fingers, but there are a select few who seem to like abusing new members purely as an ego boost.

If we're talking about trolls and spammers, that's fine, but it doesn't take much brainpower to pick up on the fact that the opening poster was just trying to be friendly. There should be no reason to meet a new member with so much hostility with the first post, even if it is against forum policy, because forum policy is unwritten and a result of experience.

That having been said, welcome and I hope you don't take this to heart.
