You know, I usually like to play as a left-winger more often than a right-winger most the time, since being left-wing is just more fun and interesting, and because I generally just feel like a douche-bag when I'm right-wing . But I have to put this straight.

A multitude of times I've seen libbies complain about how they are a persecuted minority on this site. Now, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that's complete bullshit and they are just following their emotional need to feel like a persecuted minority.

But don't just take my word for it. Lets look at some facts, starting with the political-compass test. Every once in awhile the test is posted, which puts people on a grid showing an arbitrary compartmentalization of their political views. The thread is replied to by almost entirely active users.

This was the results of the last compilation of replies:
http://www.debate.org...
This shows 23 people on the "left".
And 22 people on the "right".
Not including my dot(creeper in the corner) and Geo's(who is dead center).
That's almost exactly cut down the middle, with a slight edge to the left.

Now, lets look at the actual complete user-base. Official site demographics:
http://www.debate.org...
Looking specifically, now, at the ideology box.
Adding together, Communist, Socialist, Green, Labor, Liberal and Progressive, we come to a total of 34%.
Adding together Conservative and Libertarian we get a total of 26%.
The other categories can't be fairly put into "left" or "right".

In conclusion, no left-wingers, you are not the brave little David going up against Goliath, sorry.
But don't take it too harshly, you can still feel good about yourself by taking the classical college justification and saying the left is more predominant here because the people here are simply so well educated.

Take some more evidence. I made a thread a month ago where I tallied up the top posters on DDO. This short list of people make up a huge percentage of posts in the forums. I'll add whether they are left or right next to their name this time.

1. Ragnar_Rahl --------------- Count: 17,171 (right)
2. Danielle --------------------- Count: 17,117 (left)
3. I-am-a-panda -------------- Count: 15,378 (right)
4. lovelife ---------------------- Count: 14,622 (left)
5. Ore_Ele --------------------- Count: 13,658 (left)
6. FREEDO --------------------- Count: 12,306 (Mc Donald had a seaweed?)
7. mattrodstrom -------------- Count: 10,911 (right)
8. Cerebral_Narcissist -------- Count: 10,806 (neither)
9. badger ---------------------- Count: 10,308 (left)
10. Mirza ------------------------ Count: 9,725 (right)
11. Volkov ---------------------- Count: 9,594 (left)
12. innomen ------------------- Count: 9,201 (right)
13. royalpaladin --------------- Count: 9,170 (left)
14. GeoLaureate8 ------------- Count: 8,903 (neither)
15. Koopin --------------------- Count: 8,343 (right)

Left=6
Right=6
Right down the middle again.

Nice work FREEDO. I never thought the site was dominated by the right, but found that the libertarian minded members seemed to have logic and reason on their side, and emotionally based arguments just don't hold up. Emotionally based arguments can fall on both sides of the political fence, and are equally vulnerable to discredit.

"dominated by right-wingers" Hmm, looks like I need to reevaluate what right wing means. Being "for" marriage as being between a man and a woman is considered extreme now. So I guess right wing means something even more extreme than that.
It's not your views that divide us, it's what you think my views should be that divides us.

If you think I will give up my rights and forsake social etiquette to make you "FEEL" better you are sadly mistaken

This is absolutely accurate. Just look at Royalpaladin's "final post." She talked about all the left-wingers holding unpopular opinions and being driven off the site. So why, when I defend traditional marriage, am I called a bigot and accused of seeing gays as less than human?

Exactly! I am tired of RP, ike, contra, etc. claiming they are a persecuted minority.

1. All the popular people are liberal
2. All the hated people are mostly right-wing.

No, lol. It only seems like that because of the influx of opinionated teenage right wingers that came relatively recently.

I actually believe the claim is somewhat legit that right-wingers dominate the site. Yes, a lot of the top posters are leftist, but many of these leftists post mainly in the games section or other more apolitical areas.

I'll take some posts from the politics section, which should be the obviously the most political section:
Topic: Unemployment rate and population regments
DanT - right wing
Ron-Paul - right wing
Ameriman - right wing
Lordknuckle - right wing
Oberherr - right wing
JaxsonRaine- right wing
cbrhawk1- moderate

Clueless on the political spectrum
Microsuck - left wing
johnnyboy54 - right wing
Mirza - right wing
LibertyCampell - right wing
Oberhurr - right wing
Cody_Franklin - right wing
RoyLatham - right wing
Contra - left wing
Lordknuckle - right wing
socialpinko - right wing
Apoll.11 - left wing
Dan.T- right wing
cbrhawk.1 - moderate

Political discussions are right wing, the forum is moderate. For example I never see lickdafoot post on the politics forums even though she is liberal. Most of the liberals you describe spend most of their time in the mafia games.

This is what I've thought. The politics forum itself is swamped by right-wingers, same as the economics section.

I don't understand what the point is supposed to be. Suppose we all agree that the right-wing dominates the site, then so what? Or if the left wing dominates, then so what? Before DDO, I mainly posted on left-wing dominated sites. I wanted to debate, so there would be no reason to go on a site where I got agreement. I was banned from the Liberal forum upon about.com on the grounds that no one on that forum was allowed to disagree with the official leftist opinion.

It's true that leftists covet being victims. Ann Coulter wrote a book about it, and she was right. Being a victim supposedly justifies all manner of anti-social behavior that the Left loves.

On DDO, there are a lot of people who don't conform to common stereotypes. There are avowed leftists who favor free trade, and right-wingers who are pro abortion. That makes who "dominates" a topic-by-topic thing. It means that if the site were nominally 100% one way or the other, there could still be plenty of debates.

The problem is more that the left wingers don't post much on politics of being left wing, but right wingers post much more. With this hypothesis, I pick one random popular post from the politics forum and:

26 republicans

72 politically recorded voters (new sample)
Of 27 posts by communist/socialist/leftwing anarchist, there were only 3 posters of those leanings. brian_eggleston, the socialist of the three, only posted once. Thus, the Communists/left wing anarchist duo of Danielle/RoyalPaladin had the same number of posts of the conservatives (though there were more individual conservatives).

Speaking as a leftist, I think it would be very interesting if Roy or one of the other "right-wingers" started posting or debating a leftist position anonymously. From my own experience, if you comment on a forum post or debate things like universal healthcare, for example, there will be maybe around 3 or 4 right-leaning opinion for every leftist one. When it comes to debates, wins for the leftist position in a debate over a controversial topic are few and far between, unless the match ups are heavily one-sided (like a Danielle vs Izbo debate, or something as drastically uneven).
