I'm not sure whether to put this here, or in Games.

I came up with an idea where we somehow force each other to flip our religious, sociological, philosophical, or political beliefs and have at it in forum arguments for a period of time.

Maybe like a Secret Santa thing?

Your problem, right there.

I don't get the point of this game anyhow. I mean, the community seems diverse enough to find a debate on almost any topic.

I like gays they are the best they should marry in the streets of new york.

We need higher taxes as well as socialistic policies to make america equal as well as stringent regulation to prevent a banking collapse.

How exactly did you do it? In a forum, or on DDO for a few days?

My turn:

We need banking deregulation so that the businessman can either make it big, and if they fail that is part of the cycle that requires more self discipline to recover. Property rights should make it so government cannot regulate anything, besides a small tax base for national defense.

We should increase national defense spending so that it stimulates the economy at the blue collar areas, and develop in cyber technology for both medical and military usage that will in turn stimulate the white collar workforce.

Welfare should be slashed so that people must work. We shouldn't subsidize others. Self discipline so people can make it to college.

Free market insurance with health care exchanges so that insurance premiums are low and consumers can shop for the right policy.

Lower taxes on the wealthy, because property rights entails them to keep that money, they earned it through self discipline, and thus serve as a role model to those that need help, and conservative policies that regulate social behavior encourage self discipline so that all can succeed or fail based on their own merits.

Mostly forums. I think a couple of debates took place during that time, too. People changed all of their profile information and stuff. I think it lasted about a week or two?

I've always wanted to do something like that. But with debates, not just the forums.

The intellectual dishonesty would make this idea prohibitive. I personally don't understand the thought process of my counterpart. I could not even begin to relay a coherent response because my counter part "to me" defies all logic. I am incapable of understanding "what I believe" to be utter self destructive lunacy as a good idea.
It's not your views that divide us, it's what you think my views should be that divides us.

I'm tempted. It would be an exercise in devil's advocate writ large, and would require a good deal of research. I've always been fascinated by the reasons people believe so many contradictory things, and how honest men can take the same facts and come to completely different conclusions.

I'm not sure I could just jump right into the act, though. What is the opposite of my actual beliefs; a war-mongering, anarchist, atheist eco-terrorist?

I'm not sure such creatures exist, or how to begin to understand the basic premises of their thinking.

Umm... I guess I would be a Pro-"family values" (whatever the f*ck that means), pro-life, pro-torture, Christian fundamentalist and fascist.

This endeavor seems like it would end up with passive-aggressive sarcasm/satire more than an honest look at the oppositions points.

Sounds like fun. So what, we randomly assign a person a secret Santa to people and the Santa instructs the other to revise their their profile and their ideological orientations? How long do we want to do it for?

I would elect Ren to organize this.

1. First, there should be a list of participants.

2. Each participant should be assigned a "gift-recipient"

3. Each participant will be individually notified as to who their "gift-recipient" is.

4. Each participant messages Ren a brief description of their "costume". It should be fairly detailed, list a good amount of bias, and it should be easily picked up. Try not to have any contradicting views, make it an easy costume for them to put on.

5. They would then go to their respective forums, or create forum topics, and they would argue according to the rules set out by that message :D
