Greetings,

Welcome to the first official DDO tournament 1.0. Airmax has promised in his campaign to start having official DDO tournaments. In fulfillment to this promise, airmax has appointed 7 moderators which will be in charge of each tournament. To every tournament, there will be only one moderator meaning that the moderators are going to be rotated. I am going to be the first moderator for the tournament. As such, I am not allowed to participate.

The official tournament moderators are:

1. Man-is-Good
2. Ron-Paul
3. Socialpinko
4. ConservativePolitico
5. Stephen_Hawkins
6. DatonaNerd
7. Microsuck

Each official tournament is going to have its own theme. The theme for the first tournament is the environment.

Suggested Resolutions

These are suggested resolutions for the tournament theme. Each tournament is going to have suggested resolutions. Here are the resolution suggestions for this theme:

1. The keystone pipeline ought to be built
2. Global warmming is primarily caused by man
3. We ought to privatize the supply of water
4. We should use carbon capture and storage to curb CO2 emissions from fossil fules
5. We should end the use of hydroelectric dams
6. We should end the use of nuclear powered energy

Debate rules
1. Four round
2. 72 hours to argue
3. 8k characters
4. 2 week voting period (may be longer, but the results after the 2 weeks count for the final score)
5. After the PM gets sent out, you have 1 week to decide your resolution with your opponent and begin the debate. Failure to complete this in time will result in a double forfeit.

The goals of the Green Party ought to be pursued. Anyone?

Possibly. Their "Green New Deal" proposal is something that sounds promising as a clean energy stimulus program that improves the environment, our energy independence, our national security, our economy, and our stability.

Or maybe even:

At current energy consumption rates, fossil fuels will not last for over 200 years. I'd be pro.

At energy growth rates of 5%, no amount of fossil fuel findings will be helpful when fuel doubles FIVE times within a lifetime. that's 18 million barrels of oil per day (US consumption) to 576 million barrels of oil per day. You can't tell me with a straight face that that is sustainable.

So, when you say 'suggested resolutions', does that mean that they aren't mandatory, and we can pick a completely different resolution if we want, as long as it's about the environment?

Discovery rates are already on the decline. There is nothing suggesting we will magically find vast reserves of oil at rates higher than the past decade.

No because it deals too much with foreign policy and other issues.

IMPORTANT UPDATE! Due to request from airmax, the tournament will now cap off at 16 players rather than the original 20.

THIS IS SINGLE ELIMINATION.

The tournament is going to have 16 payers. I am going to group you into 4 pairs of quads based upon the ELO rating provided by Ore_Ele. In the first round, the highest rated debates the lowest rated player and the two middle debate. The winner debates and the losers debates.

It is going to be as a tournament tree thing. For example:

1
2

3
4

5
6

7
8

Meh, I'll join, but I am not familiar with a lot of things in the environmental category. I'll probably get KO'd in the first round.
