Hey all,

I have often asked: if I owned DDO, how would I change it? There are several things that I would do to change DDO.

1. Member Profile

One of the things I would do is add member groups and change colours based upon that group. I would colorize the administrators "firebrick" and moderators "green", this way you can know who is a moderator/administrator.

I would add ELO ratings based upon wins/losses that would go under "post/vote count."

I'd add icons next to people who are elected official username.

I would allow custom formatting of your profile (i.e., bold, underline, italics) and add a section for people that inspire you.

2. Look and Feel

I would update DDO look and feel the following ways:

1. Editor - I'd improve the editor to allow text links and improve pasting from word. I would also add anchor tags, horizontal lines, and various other elements as well.
2. Add quick debates (in the making)
3. Loosen down on DDO stickies (in the making)
4. Combine personal/funny/miscelaneous forum and rename it "Open Discussions."
5. Add one ad per page (except on editing pages) for monetary value.

3. Features

1. Ability to make your own private or public groups
2. Create video debates
3. Lengthen the time up to a week to post arguments
4. Extend maximum characters to 8500

Premium membership

I'd add an option for premium membership which will grant the following features:
1) Ability to post on DDO blogs
2) Ads free
3) Ability to start groups.

How would you change DDO if you owned it?

I would fix the only problem with DDO.

Sometimes you see a forum that had a post '0 sec ago'.

I don't like that... you can't go nothing into the past... IT MUST BE FIXED!!!

That's because the time after the post was released is less than a second, something like 0.5.

Who in their right mind would actually pay money to join a debate website? Debating is work....Juggle should reward the DDO community for giving the site intellectual gravity. Not the other way around.

People who want to support Juggle.

A lot of online communities operate solely off contributions. I've ran a few that worked that way. It's not a big deal for some people to donate 5, 10, or 100 dollars to a community they enjoy.

Just don't give them perks for doing so and that'd be fine.

First of all, it should be 10,000-12,000 characters at least.

Second of all, a LOT more forums need to be combined:
1. Arts and Entertainment.
2. Science and Technology.
3. History and Society.
4. News and Politics.
5. Religion and Philosophy.
6. Sports and Games.
7. Health and Education?

Thirdly, "quick debates" would just bring down the quality of debates and reduce them to forum-level discussions.

Mmm no. Art is not movies or books.

Art... It's... Expression.

2. Science and Technology.

Mmm. Sure.

3. History and Society.

... Hm... No. What playboy is doing is not history.

4. News and Politics.

Yes

5. Religion and Philosophy.

Yes

6. Sports and Games.

Mafia and sports?

7. Health and Education?

No

Art... It's... Expression.

Art is subjective. Some people consider what Selena Gomez does to be art. I personally disagree, but then again others have no appreciation for Wagner or Bach. It's all up in the air when it comes to art.

2. Science and Technology.

Mmm. Sure.

A viable combination not unlike peanut butter & jelly. I will add that I like neither peanut butter or jelly.

3. History and Society.

... Hm... No. What playboy is doing is not history.

History of Pornography? (I think some universities offer that as a sociology class, lol)

4. News and Politics.

Yes

Ehh....

5. Religion and Philosophy.

Yes

Ehh... on this one I'll have to put my foot down. The two must remain apart. I have no interest in seeing the posts of our resident religious fanatics alongside discussions of Kant or Nothing.

6. Sports and Games.

Mafia and sports?

I think Mafia deserves its own category...

7. Health and Education?

No

lol...

Thirdly, "quick debates" would just bring down the quality of debates and reduce them to forum-level discussions.

If only there were a "quality police" system on DDO to impose prior restraint on the nonsense... oh wait... that's probably not a good idea actually.

UNLIMITED CHARACTERS! BRING BACK FREEDOM OF REDUNDANTLY LONG-WINDED REPETITION!!!

True, but you also run one of two risks.

1) People that simply spam with 100,000 meaningless characters to try to make the job of refuting them too time consuming to be worth it.

2) People will not read that much to actually make an informed vote. We have enough issues with low vote quantity and quality as is.

So... perhaps 50,000 character limits and 5 day debate times?

5. Religion and Philosophy.

The Fool:
Absolutly NOT!!. ITs hard enough keeping philosophy Seprate.

Critical/analytic philosophy.
This is of Logic, and scientific method. Philosophy of science, Philosophy of langauge, philosophy of mind. Philosophy of physics of evolution, etc.(what are these particles you are talking about thier???? type reasoning) Based of what evidence to you claim natural selection and other such affairs. These type of questions. Philosophy of math, Most importantly Critical thinking Skills.!!
Rational: means to think in coherent with logic.

The other guys:

The Continental Philosophy:

I would even like split between Continental Philosophy, Marxism, and other atheist religions/ideologies. Philospohy of Religion. Which are based of absolutly nothing. Extententialism. (you are what ever you define your self as.) I am a banana. Woo Hoo! What is true is what every you call true. aka 1+1 is true to you but to me 1+3=9
The Fool: No no no. it doesn't work like that!.
You have essence, reality, and existence and being, actual Like as thought they are different properties.

The Fool: guess what they all come from the same meaning that is what IS! Its all illusionary fallacies caused by language.
To them:
Rational is anything you define the word rational to refer to. Its all a paradigm, Aka rational can mean anything like murder crime spree as long as you define it as that.
Aka the Crazy fundementalist.

I would even like split between between Critical/analytic philosophy vs Continental Philosophy. It should say Religion and Continental philosophy.
Where the rules are What ever you believe them to be!!!> (that should be the Slogin)

6. Sports and Games.
7. Health and Education?

Thirdly, "quick debates" would just bring down the quality of debates and reduce them to forum-level discussions.

The Fool: that is what the forums are for anyways. Health could go with science. health sciences.
