Is multiple accounts illegal here?
Can you be banned for multiple accounts?

I ask this because it is obvious that some here have multiple accounts. Not only does this hurt the reputation of this forum but is boarderline dishonest. I see many news accounts in the forums who talk as if they have been here all along. They know people by name when they just joined. They talk about the same things that older members love too and in the same manner. I think that people sould be themselves and be up front about who they are and what they believe here not post under one profile and then jump in under another one.

Don't know about the technicality, but if someone decided to move on from their old account and start anew, no harm done. It would be ridiculous to ban them for that.

If someone has multiple accounts at once thats a bit different

I agree with that thought.

It depends on how the accounts are used.

If used to spam debates, votes, or harass other members, then they will likely be banned. If it is used as a comical joke, they will usually be temporarily allowed (for the duration of the joke).

Ok, what about this?
What if a member who frequants the forums and has many discussions going on and then creates a new account. He then goes on and continues the discussions under the new name without the members knowing and knows everything that was discussed before?

Here's the deal with this:

If you wish to change your account and use a new one I'm not going to close either account as long as your other account is deactivated.

If you use the other account to debate yourself, or vote on either accounts debates I will kill the account immediately and send a severe warning to your regular account. Depending on the circumstance this could lead to summery banning right away of the members regular account, as it's just about the worst offense on this site.

Some people like to create a multi and just have some fun for a day with it and I'm generally pretty lenient about this, but do kill the account after enough trolling, or if the account is harassing anyone.

There are many multi accounts that currently exist on the site, but by far the majority of them are entirely benign and go completely unnoticed. I would like members to be aware that I am aware of all of their multis and if they think they are being clever with alt voting, alt debating, or trolling, they are not. It is simply a matter of time until I notice it (in most cases I am aware right away) and potentially close both accounts, and if the alt voting/debating continues, IP ban those members.

For members with multis for the sake of having a new persona or starting on the site anew, I am also aware of these accounts and hope those members continue to enjoy the site under these new names. There is nothing wrong with this per se', so long as it doesn't threaten any aspect of the site mentioned above.

I would discourage this in particular, and haven't seen this occur much.

Thanks Airmax...I just think I notice it but it may be nothing. I appreciate you stating the sites stance on the subject.
