What if DDO had its own stock market?

I was cleaning up monopoly money that landed on my computer (My brother went into a rage and destroyed the game after he had to mortgage off his last property and flung the board everywhere) and I happened to be on my friends list while picking up the money and an Idea came to me.

Heres my idea for a DDO stock market which will in no way become reality and is just an idea to think about.

1) People would be investors and the stocks.

Everybody would be able to invest as an actual person, and their account will also be the stock whose price will be based off of their reputation. Every stock would start at a number (say $10) and then the price would rise or fall depending on how many people invested into that person/stock. People would invest in people/stocks who have good reputation and then basically buy low and sell high.

2) Score

The name of the game would be to make as much money as possible for bragging rights. The money earned isnt money in any sense of the word, it is just a way to keep score. There would have to be a program that tracks how each person would do (because if we went on the honor system everybody would lie). It would also be cool to have a ranking system to see who is doing the best overall, and maybe a separate one to show who is making the most money in the least amount of time.

3) Starting amount

What good is it to invest in a market if you dont have anything to invest. Every stock starts at $10 but every person would be able to start with $1000 because the prices of a few people would rise faster then Apple's stock has in the past few days. $1000 allows everyone from the beginning to get a good start but it leaves room for people to join later in the game.

4) How stocks would rise or fall

If someone buys a stock, the stocks price will rise $1 for every time a share is bought, subsequently it would drop $1 for every time a share is sold. Pretty straightforward

5) Short selling?

Short selling is the action of selling stocks you dont currently own at a high price and then buying them again later at a much lower price, essentially cashing in on how bad a stock is doing. In the DDO stock market this would be completely legal since the popular saying is "the bigger you are, the harder you fall, the more moo-lah i make from how far you fall". That is the saying right? Im being told it is.

6) Investing in yourself

Its common practice in the real world that those who run the company also own the most stock in it, and in DDO why shouldnt it be any different. Sure investing into your own stock just to cash in on it later seems unethical, but come on, this is a stock market.

7) Market hours

People are busy with work, lives, and school here on DDO, so rather then keep it open from 10 to 5 monday thru thursday like the Dow Jones does (I think thats when theyre open) the DDO stock market would run from 8pm to 11pm and only be open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Weekends allow everyone to relax and stay up late, and to partake in a cutthroat game of making more fake money then each other.

8) Talk show?

Mad Money stars a guy who needs to take a Xanax, but the point is that DDO could potentially have its own talking session regarding why stocks are performing the way they are, which stocks to look out for, and a host could run the whole thing like a big shot.

9) Faults

No system is perfect, and this is where I would really like to hear from people because all of my ideas that I get from staring at monopoly money usually have some fatal flaw. The only one I could see right now is if someone short-sold their own stock at a high price, and then took a huge dive to cash in on their own falling price.

Ok im done, thoughts?

In reality (like you care about reality), the rising/falling of stock depends on how a company does in the real world. Stocks rise when that company does well. Stocks fall when it doesn't. So, tie in stocks to a particular person. If that person wins a debate (or mafia game, or whatever), then that person's stock rises. If that person loses, than that person's stock falls depending on the score or other subtleties.

Yea, like how USM suggested. Good idea though imabench.

That would be unfair to gambling addicts who use DDO to try to free themselves of their addiction (happens more than you think)

In addition, I think that stock prices per debater should be determined by their ELO score, if we're still talking about the DDO stock market.

Maybe that should be a punishable offense... but IDK. I think that some of these questions could only be answered by actually putting up a rudimentary betting system or a stock market.
