Getting rid of 1 round debates.

1 round debates are pretty pointless. Nobody who ever does this is serious. The instigator is guranteed to lose, since he/she will not be able to refute anything. Its mainly for troll debates or people who want to research information without doing any work.

I agree. They're fun to do sometimes but on balance sort of pointless.

Hello, all!

One thing we have been considering which might help combat the issue of one-round debates is the addition of an "Opening Statement." If we add this, then, one-round debates might seem a bit more complete. Each user would be allowed to provide a brief and concise explanation of their stance, then proceed to the first round of arguments.

Do you think an "Opening Statement" might help with the problem presented here, or are one-round debates altogether undesirable?

This is something we will be considering for our upcoming changes to the "Debates" platform, so please let us know what you think!
