I know this has been done before, but in a last effort attempt to call attention to the owners of this site and ask for changes, I've compiled a few requests of things that I feel could greatly benefit DDO. Feel free to respond to my suggestions or add some of your own.

1) A Philosophy Forum

Sure we could just discuss these topics in Education or Miscellaneous; however, I think the interest in a philosophy forum here is much greater than some of the categories we have now, such as Sports (unfortunately) and Technology. I think that having a forum designed specifically for Philosophical discussion would be successful in both (a) engaging people to talk about these things, and (b) instigating debate which is supposed to be the purpose of this website. Additionally, a philosophy forum might attract people to DDO; this is not far-fetched considering that there are already various other philosophy forums that exist, and thus we could possibly recruit some of those regulars to DDO and draw revenue for the site.

2) A Chat and/or IM System

We have a DDO Fans chat room; however, we all know that there are kinks to be worked out... people sign in there pretending to be me, for example. Now even if this problem is addressed, it's kind of annoying to have to keep another tab or window open in order to utilize both DDO and the chat at the same time. As you can see, DDO, people obviously want to talk to each other hence the existence of the other chat in the first place. Moreover, other websites that have this interactive feature again draw a bigger crowd; people might consider this a social networking site in addition to a debating and intellectual site, which we all know the masses love. And yet DDO offers something distinct that Facebook and MySpace do not (a community, for one).

3) An Ignore Button

Yep, all the cool kids will say that you don't need a button or feature in order to ignore somebody. However, I'd really love one anyway... and I'd love for that person to know that they're being ignored. This is not to promote childish hostility, but rather eliminate it. This would also help with all of the incessant complaining about the trolls.

4) Voter Credibility

Now I'm not sure if this was presented as an option before or not; however, suppose that on each debate we could see which debaters actually voted. This would protect people's privacy in the sense that you would not see HOW they voted; however, you can see WHO voted which could help us pinpoint vote bombing more easily. For instance, if there were accounts that were completely non-active and yet voted on all of your debates, we could easily target this as a fake account. Additionally, I think it would encourage more people to actually read and vote on this site, which can only be a good thing. Of course this would be slightly unfair (revealing points) to the 1st person who voted on every debate, but they could always eliminate any "embarrassment" by providing an RFD and being fair in their point distribution. Or, we could allow people to see who voted on a debate once 3 or more people voted.

Public voting is good, but philosophy goes under society.

There are a few minor bugs like on http://www.debate.org... where it says "Searc".

A forum search could be useful, I s'pose. Also, I disagree that Philosophy should necessarily go under Society. For instance, I posted a question about Socrates/Plato's Meno's Paradox which was basically an epistemological question under Education. I figured that was the most appropriate place.

Metaphysics goes under society? Epistemology goes under society? Existence of God goes under society? Etc.

These are nice sentiments. But don't get your hopes up. Phil is currently revamping NewCars.org, a website which he previously claimed earned him half a million dollars annually.

And then after that, he plans on building DORK.com into a complex social networking site (with pictures, e-mail, file sharing, forums, and more) from January '10 to April '10.

And these are just the official plans. Who knows what else he has planned but hasn't announced.

And a good point at that... most topics which could be considered Philosophy have no business in the Society forum, or any other forum but Philosophy.

Actually, philosophy is a broad parachute which includes religion, science, society...

To echo Skeptic... epistemology? Metaphysics? I'm not saying these couldn't be placed elsewhere, I'm just saying that the BEST place for them would be a Philosophy forum.

Mine is also correct. And i must agree, a chat system and forum searching would be my two most appreciated additions.

And since foul language has been a big issue on this site, why not this: You're allowed to curse in the forums; however, if someone offends you with their language, you can just block them :)

Philosophy is a distinct discipline from religion and science. Society is not even a discipline...

Only certain sciences are from philosophy, there are quite a bit of math based sciences that I don't think have anything to do with philosophy.
