Good afternoon, DDO!

We would like to share some exciting updates coming to the "Opinions" section of the site.

In order to encourage member engagement, we are currently working to integrate commenting, voting, and tracking for arguments posted to topics in the "Opinions" section.

What follows is a summary of the ideas we have had so far. If you have any other suggestions, we encourage you to share them with us.

"Opinions" Voting
-Only Debate.org members can vote for an "Opinions" argument
-The winning arguments for the "Pro" and "Con" side of each topic will be displayed at the top of the page
-You will be rewarded 3 votes for each "Opinion" argument you post
-You will only be able to "vote up" or "vote for" an argument (You will not be able to "vote down" or "vote against")
-You can vote for arguments by members and non-members alike
-You can "undo" your vote and vote for a better argument if one appears

"Opinions" Commenting
-Comments on arguments will be called "rebuttals"
-You can "rebut" arguments by members and non-members alike

Tracking of "Opinions" in Member Profiles
A new "Opinions" section in member profiles will display:
-List/number of your "Opinions" arguments
-Number of votes your "Opinions" arguments have received
-Rebuttals your "Opinions" arguments have received
-Number of "Opinions" rebuttals you have posted
-Number of "Opinions" votes you have remaining

Please share any comments, questions, ideas and suggestions you have regarding enhancements to "Opinions" here. We will happily take them into consideration when planning for these new features.

Thanks, and have a great day!

Good afternoon.

Let's look at what you're planning to update.

In order to encourage member engagement, we are currently working to integrate commenting, voting, and tracking for arguments posted to topics in the "Opinions" section.
That's good to hear.

What follows is a summary of the ideas we have had so far. If you have any other suggestions, we encourage you to share them with us.

"Opinions" Voting
-Only Debate.org members can vote for an "Opinions" argument
This is one of the most needed updates. I fully support this.

This entire section is something similar to CreateDebate. This is something I would never support. 3 votes for each "Opinion" argument would be inappropriate. Why? What if someone wrote something that was not of any value. I've seen several members write why they felt a certain candidate won a debate purely of saying that their platform on their website was better. Voting "up" or "for" is just based on purely bias and only a certain group of members would take this seriously. Voting for arguments would cause us to be somewhat similar to CreateDebate and winning arguments would be artificial because everyone has a different approach. Liberals voting for their arguments, Conservatives voting for their argument, only a number of people would truly do it fairly.

"Opinions" Commenting
-Comments on arguments will be called "rebuttals"
I would like that definitely. However, something to consider would be responses to rebuttals, responses to the responses, and then responses to the responses of the responses. This is a big problem like CreateDebate so we could possibly make a solution.
-You can "rebut" arguments by members and non-members alike
If non-members weren't able to get on, then yes. No "non-members" in Opinions.

Tracking of "Opinions" in Member Profiles
A new "Opinions" section in member profiles will display:
-List/number of your "Opinions" arguments
This would be awesome. I fully support it.
-Number of votes your "Opinions" arguments have received
I've already said why this would be horrendous.
-Rebuttals your "Opinions" arguments have received
That would be good. We would just have the work out the problem of multiple responses or "comments".
-Number of "Opinions" rebuttals you have posted
Same as above.
-Number of "Opinions" votes you have remaining
I've already explained why it would be horrible.

Please share any comments, questions, ideas and suggestions you have regarding enhancements to "Opinions" here. We will happily take them into consideration when planning for these new features.

Thanks, and have a great day!

This sounds very impressive. I can't wait for it to take effect.
