PoeJoe once said he was among the protesters sprayed at UC Davis.

Congrats PoeJoe. Although I think you should have held out for 4 years of free tuition.

Well, not talking about anyone or any incident in specific, but I don't think people should get paid for breaking the law, refusing to comply with lawful orders after breaking the law, and break more laws after refusing to comply, then refuse to comply about breaking those laws...

you know... I could sum it up in a word, but I won't.

maybe one day if i break the law, resist arrest and the police officer inevitably uses force, I could sue the police officer and get a whole bunch of money.

Do it. but make sure to do with with your friends, at an age where, while you are still an adult, people consider you fragile, innocent, or naive. And get it on video.

Those "lawful orders" were illegal. Restitution sets a precedent.

Illegal how?

The students don't have the right to camp on those grounds. They don't have the right to block walkways.

It's illegal to use pepper spray on peaceful protesters.

The use of pepper spray in war is also banned by the Geneva Convention.

It can also be lethal to people with asthma. At least 61 people have died from police use of pepper spray since 1990.

Source?

It would have to be lethal against active resistance, as that is what those students did.

The use of pepper spray in war is also banned by the Geneva Convention.

Ok, but this wasn't war.

Everything can be lethal. The cops that were trying to subdue the guy with multiple personalities accidentally killed him by crushing his windpipe or something like that. Tasers can kill... Are cops not able to enforce laws because the ones breaking them might get hurt?

illegal* against people actively resisting. I believe the steps are compliance, passive resistance, active resistance.

It wasn't a peaceful protest either. If the protesters were following the rules and not disrupting and blocking others way in getting to class, then they can protest. That's fine. However they were blocking entrance to classes and the police gave the protesters warning that they had to leave. What were the police supposed to do? Just allow them to have their way and screw everyone else over?

There's a reason why the Westboro baptist church hasn't been pepper sprayed by the police even though everyone hates their guts. Its because they are actually peaceful protesters that are not interfering with others.

People will see that the school settled, and assume that means the students were in the right.

It's just not true, settlements are just to save everyone time and money, not admissions of guilt.

Pike was fired on July 31 by the campus police chief who took over the university"s police department after the chief who was in charge last fall, Annette Spicuzza, stepped down under fire.

Pretty official right there. Sucks for him that his life was ruined for doing his job.

That idiot should have known better than to pepper spray a bunch of college students just sitting there. He was probably told that he was to go that far "if he needed to," or "in order to assert his authority," but however he interpreted it, he should have had the sound and conscious mind to refrain from actually going there and doing that shiit outright.

Yeah... Adults who break the law and resist the police should totally be allowed to just keep doing it!
