If so, what do you perceive the factions to be? Is it two sided, cut along political/economic/religious lines, or more granular and complicated than that?

And by factional, I don't necessarily mean having the same opinions and viewpoints, but are actively defensive of members of their "faction" and antagonistic toward members of opposed "factions"

There is a split between the hardcore conservatives and liberals, but other than that, I don't see anything.

Libertarians and everyone else.
Anarchists and Statists.
Atheists and religious people.

This. With the addition of the most contentious topic:
People who like kfc and people who do not like kfc.

My post was the most accurate. Let's leave it at that.

To an extent, but there is overlap in some areas. For example, I am a liberal, and there are certain things that I agree on with many Republicans. There are also, I think, some areas in which even Geo and I are in agreement. From what I can garner, Danielle and I agree on most things -and I even agree with MouthWash on other things. [I could go on, but I think you get the point.] So at least in my case, while there is considerable disagreement with some, there is considerable agreement with other things.

No. I do not think it is.
DDO is the single greatest place I have EVER seen, whether in real life or online, for being unified in our differences.
I really think that.
DDO may be the only thing I'll ever feel any sense of patriotism towards.

Theoist vs. atheoists
Kyro vs. Wentsworth

These are the only ones that I truely see.

Though a noob, and thus not qualified to answer the question as phrased, my answer to a normative version of this question would be that I hope that open-minded people can overcome their differences the way YYW is suggesting.

One of the oldest ideas in philosophy is the idea of the dialectic.

(One of the few things in Marx that I both understand and like is his use of the idea of dialectic.)

My handle (if one realizes that the Lib stands for libertarian and not liberal) Is a dead giveaway for where I'm coming from.

Glad to be on board, (and hope to avoid being "factionalized:)."

By the way Mouthwash's second answer might be one of my favorites.
"I would remind you that extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice.* And let me remind you also that moderation in the pursuit of justice is no virtue." Barry Goldwater
*Except in a democracy it might lose you an election.

My own thoughts.

Crazy theists vs. atheists (doesn't include reasonable theists like PCP)
Crazy conservatives (ex. LK) vs. crazy liberals (ex. Ike)
Royal vs. DK
