Hello DDO'ers,

Within the next hour or so, we will be pushing out a release with a few updates to the site.

In addition to some minor cleanup items and bug fixes, there are two major components to this release:

The first is the introduction of display advertisements to non-logged in users. Our members are crucial to the quality of the Debate.org community and the site as a whole, and we want to keep it that way. By implementing ads for non-logged in users ONLY, we will be able to continue to develop great features and improve all aspects of Debate.org. No site members will be impacted by the introduction of ads unless they are browsing the site without being logged in.

The second and more exciting update is the introduction of the ELO ranking system on the Debate Leaderboard (http://www.debate.org...). After this release, you will now be able to see and sort by ELO rankings on the Leaderboard. The original percentile rankings will remain listed as well, so you can compare between the two different ranking systems. In addition, your profiles and your profile cards (what displays when you hover over a member's username) will be updated with your ELO ranking.

This is a feature we are really excited to release since so many have asked for it for so long. There will be a shakeup in the default rankings as a result of this change, but our end goal was to provide you with a more comprehensive and accurate ranking system.

We will be pushing out the update within the next hour or so. If you experience any issues or would like to report any bugs as a direct result of this release, please do so in this forum thread (http://www.debate.org...) to keep this one on topic.

Thank you all, and happy debating!

Hi, I like the new updates, but is there a way to find your ELO ranking without having to scroll through the entire leaderboard?

Hello!

You can find your ELO ranking in the "Debate Statistics" box in the left rail of your profile page. View an example here: http://d.pr...

Your ELO ranking will also show up in the data that appears when you hover over a member's profile card.

Thank you guys. Please try more monetization methods. You deserve it. How about putting ads for members and then having a "premium" thing that you could buy for like five bucks that would hide them?

Thanx.

What's the formula for this?

I noticed at least once that people with the exact same record had different ELO scores:

http://www.debate.org...
Torm - 2nd from top was in only 1 debate, which he won, has 2063

dovalojd has the same record but has a score of 2059

& here Manduh7486 with the same record has 2030:
http://www.debate.org...

& here statedebater with the same record has 2,265
http://www.debate.org...

There are tons of these.
Why/how?

Yep. That's exactly how it's supposed to be. The first person you mentioned beat a better person than the second did. The lower ranked you are, and the higher ranked the person you win against is, the more points you get. So if you face roylathalm and win, you'll get a lot of points and if you face dairygirl, you probably won't get that much. Don't you think it's much better that winning against the best debater and wining against the worst debater don't give you the same amount of points?

Statedebater actually beat OreEle. That's why his score's so high.

What exactly does your ELO ranking mean?
Those who would trade liberty for security will get neither - Benjamin Franklin
The bank is trying to kill me, but I will kill it - Andrew Jackson
The waters of freedom need to be refreshed with the blood of patriots and tyrants from time to time - Thomas Jefferson
Common sense is nothing but a bunch of prejudices we acquire by the age of 18 - Albert Einstein
