Many major websites are pausing access to their website at 9:30 to support a national moment of silence for the 1 week remembrance of the Sandy Hook massacre.

DDO should follow through and black-out the website from 9:25 to 9:35.

No man, the black-out is designed to promote discussion, dialogue and awareness. It's designed to "unplug" those of us who are tapped in 24/7 and cause us to hopefully consider our own mindset on gun legislation.

For the same reason that political candidates create ads to make you aware of their campaign, so an internet-black-out shuld make you aware of it's subjective promotion.

Why else?

Jesus.....
Here is a step by step:

1.> Log off DDO.
2.> Sit down on the couch and consider the impact that this tragedy has had on the nation, on your state, your town, your household and yourself.
3.> Articulate your position.
4.> Log back on at 9:35 and begin a discussion.

or....OR.....simply don't participate.

I don't know. That's why I asked the question.

No man, the black-out is designed to promote discussion, dialogue and awareness.

We're already discussing and aware of it. There are multiple threads in multiple forums about the event itself and the aftermath. If anyone isn't aware, DDO suddenly and temporarily being inaccessible isn't going to do anything.

Have you missed the existing discussions?

Uh, yeah. They make us aware of their campaign by adding content, not by shutting down communication channels. The equivilent to this idea would be having TV channels temporarily suspend programming; it doesn't make anyone aware of anything they already weren't.

Why else?

I don't know, that's why I asked.

The only practical effect to this is potential lost revenue for DDO/Juggle, in which case I'd rather they just keep the site up and donate what that lost revenue would have been to some cause that is aiding the victims and surviving relatives of the shooting.

I thought I did by suggesting that DDO actually do something that has the potential to have an actual effect on the situation other than making people go to other web pages for a few minutes.

Were you aware that you were on a debate site?

I love how when 20 people die in a high income country it's all over the news. Millions of kids and babies die in Africa and a lot of Asia daily but no one gives two shits. IF we really we'd be silent until the world was all one big socialist community.

A lot more than 20 people died in this country that day.

In fact, I'm pretty sure a lot more than 20 people died in that state that day.

Because these deaths are considered a lot more tragic than any of the other deaths. You see, most -- if not all -- of the other aforementioned deaths were adults in lifestyles or situations conducive to dying. However, 26 people that died recently were relatively innocent -- that is, they were not in a situation or lifestyle conducive to dying -- and furthermore, the majority of those who died (the 20 onto which everyone is hanging), were young children. Have you seen the pictures of those kids? I mean, I'm not really into kids, they're obnoxious, but they looked like a bunch of regular assed kids, each of them shot in the head, one-by-one, on some random shiit. It occurred to me that it could have been my little brother, my nephew, my cousin, my kid. It can happen any day at any time. It just so happened to happen to "them" this time.

Until it happens to you.

Well, so, people acknowledge this and pay reverence. It is a sad thing, after all. The things that people do, it's just... sad.

I wonder what's going on these days. I mean, I don't remember things being like this in the nineties. But, suddenly, people are getting weird, chewing off faces, shooting places up, etc.

Yea, the observance is over. It was at 9:30 EST. Here is some source information:

Causes.com is a startup that uses social media to raise awareness and funds for charities and causes. Conway is also an investor in the for-profit company.

Sites that participated in Friday's moment of silence were invited to do so on their own, or it can embed an official badge with a green ribbon on their sites. Sites using the code appeared grayed out in the background with a white box in the foreground that reads "We are observing a National Moment of Silence for the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy."

Conway joined other tech notables and some celebrities to demand action for stronger gun control in a full-page ad in the Wednesday print edition of the New York Times. The ad was run by Mayors Against Illegal Guns, a lobbying group of more than 700 U.S. mayors. It started the Demand A Plan campaign to reform gun laws after the Aurora, Colorado, shootings in July, and it has seen a surge in new support after the Sandy Hook shootings.

This is not the first time major sites have banded together to go dark for a cause. This year, major tech names staged an immense and successful online protest against the Stop Online Privacy Act.

Causes.com has some interesting goals, but I think this need to be kept at the forefront. It shouldn't die out like the discussion on "what happened in Benghazi?"

Google participated, I think Yahoo, Twitter and Facebook did something too.

Why?

Because i really want you to pray to Jesus....what the fvck do you think?
No man, the black-out is designed to promote discussion, dialogue and awareness. It's designed to "unplug" those of us who are tapped in 24/7 and cause us to hopefully consider our own mindset on gun legislation.

For the same reason that political candidates create ads to make you aware of their campaign, so an internet-black-out shuld make you aware of it's subjective promotion.

Why else?

"cause us to hopefully consider our own mindset on gun legislation.

That would never even enter my mind. I understand that evil piles of crap humans kill little children. Like Archy Bunker put it so well, "would it make you feel better if the little kids were thrown out of windows" or maybe run over by a car, or clubbed to death with a baseball bat, or have their throats slit? The point being is this. Ask yourself why you would support an idea that will do nothing to curb violence but only make the law abiding more defenceless against it? If I as a law abiding citizen am going to be punished for this heinous act I may as well act the part. It is my fault isn't it? You do want to punish me right? You don't have any such notion of maybe say, caining people in a public square who use guns in the commission of a crime. No, something like that would never cross your mind, that would be cruel. But you have no problem subjecting the innocent to cruelty by making them defenceless against it.
It's not your views that divide us, it's what you think my views should be that divides us.

If you think I will give up my rights and forsake social etiquette to make you "FEEL" better you are sadly mistaken

If liberal democrats would just stop shooting people gun violence would drop by 90%

I get what you're trying to do, but not all users here are from America, so I don't see the point for closing a site only because of what happened in the US, when some arn't from it. Why not black out for any shooting throughout the world? Besides, yeah, I don't think it will promote much discussion. I

The point is to keep the topic alive. A pervasive discussion on this issue will (hopefully) keep the pressure up on law-makers.
I personally don't entirely know how to resolve this issue, but if the public attention shifts away from this topic (like it has with countless other "outrages") then I think we'll never see an effective resolution.
I'd like to see something besides welfare benefits change in this country. I'm going to revisit this topic on occasion to help keep awareness up.

As much as the genetic pool appreciates your interracial mixing, the very premise of this activity is fvcktarded. No thanks.

We feel sad for the victims of this tragedy however this is not necessary, It doesn't help anyone or anything and it doesn't display anything. If juggle wants to go with this then it's not a big deal. however that this isn't something that requires petitioning. Moreover the fact that there has been even greater carnage in the past makes this display seem a lot more superficial.
