Argumentation is a very important part of life. It is what allows you to clearly explain the way you see things and to defend yourself against nonsense. Practice in this area can only result in good.

When I was a retail manager I had a district manager who was very unhappy with my store and I was unable to convince him that I knew what I was doing as I had no responses to his critiques. Tensions got so high that I walked off the job, something I never thought I would do. 1 month later I was getting calls from the employees telling me that the store turned to sh1t after I left. A week or so later my DM was calling me asking me to come back. It wasn't till that point that he understood that I really did know what I was doing, I just didn't know how to express it.

Learning to debate has given me confidence I never had before, and has shown me how to help other see that I do in fact know what I am doing. My bosses/co-workers rarely challenge me anymore, they know better.

No: joining this site was one of the best things that I ever did. Namely because I was an ignorant fool beforehand.

I think it helps people interact with ideas and cashing truth out. It can also have a adverse effect of generating false beliefs though.

No, because I learn from DDO, and some things I learn here are highly relevant to my work.

Also no, because learning how to learn, learning how to make educated arguments, and learning how to perform valid research are all critical elements of a successful career " unless you're a janitor or something :/

No offense to janitors. I love you guys. PLEASE carry on!

Arrogance is good. Ignorance is bad.

Arrogance is completely avoidable and also unnecessary.

Ignorance will never be entirely eradicated in anybody.

The combination of the two is what's bad.

This place is way better than facebook, and much less a waste of time. FB is just a bunch of 15 yr old girls saying things like "Never Again!" on their status updates that no one understands, in hope for attention from the person they are talking about. Drama on DDO is better though, because people usually hash it out instead of playing games, and everyone else gets to watch hehe.

Like pretty much anything, it can be, it depends how you use it.

If all one uses it for is the games and sports forums, or to troll, it's a waste of time.
(& in the case of trolling a waste of other peoples time as well.)

If you use it to learn to appreciate other points of view, it's one of the best things you can do with your time.

In my personal experience, my Weltanschauung has changed significantly since I 1st joined, & I think a large part of that is a result of my joining DDO.

I've become more open minded, l've learned to appreciate different points of view, I've learned not to be so sure of myself.

I also have learned to express myself better, & think clearer, since joining DDO.

I've grown a lot since joining about 3 years ago, Thanx to juggle & the many members of DDO.
Thank you.

So like almost everything, it depends how you use it.
