Hey DDO,

I frequently get a lot of private messages asking me various things about the site. Very often these questions are pretty general, relating to various features about the site. Often these questions are specific, asking about a particular event that has recently occurred. Other times these questions relate to what the DDO president actually does.

I spend a fair amount of time answering these questions to each individual member who asks them, so at the recommendations of others and for the sake of clarifying anything that needs clarification, I thought it would be a good idea to start this thread and allow members to ask questions about nearly anything. Whether these are questions about DDO in general, or about specific events that have occurred, members are free to ask what they like within reason.

So if you have any questions or concerns feel free to post them in this thread and I will do my best to respond to them as soon as possible.

I have this bad feeling that people are just going to troll this thread by asking ridiculous questions.....

What does the vice president of this site do?

What is your approach to crack down on rm's multis

The VP is another member who assists in the day to day responsibilities of the president and acts as another member who they can seek advice from.

Currently I'm content with closing each one as they appear, but given recent events I may consider going a more drastic route beyond this so that RM has a disincentive in trolling the site. I do not have any specifics I'd like to mention at the moment though.

So there are 3 people who moderate, and several other members who report on moderation aspects regularly.

I actually replied to this question when it was posed to me, on the weekly stupid.

While I don't like some of the more controversial things or anything that is mean spirited I'm not going to censor it, or ask Bench to censor it himself.

It spawns arguments and debates, which is what this site is about. While a couple members have complained, not enough have done so to require me to remove it from the site.

It's an axolotl.

I've given it some thought and don't yet feel it is necessary. The way things work now has been sufficient so far.

This method involves using a mutli tiered bureaucracy to concentrate on specific site aspects, like voting and member conduct for example. The following members you mention and many others are actually involved in this effort already. It allows many members to contribute and allows me to be aware of everything that is happening on the site without having to search through every post and forum constantly.

F-16, Royal_Paladin and Oyrus would be great additions.

I don't take banning members lightly... If you want to cut down on your DDO usage you need to do so by your own self control.

Though I have done this in the past when members request to have their accounts closed, so if you are really sincere about it, contact me privately.

3. with explanation?

4. Ban first, ask questions later?

5. Lay back in cut until one person has a gun to the other's head and then try to talk them down Colombo-style?

The current number of moderators have proven enough in each of the 'crisis situations' that have occurred. In a couple of incidences a Juggle rep has needed to call me on the phone when I wasn't logged on and I have been able to deal with the situation.

To be clear, I am not opposed to having more moderators, its just that at the moment, the current number of mods and the system I have devised with other members has proven to be successful in dealing with each situation that has occurred.

Do you -

1. insert yourself in a particularly heated discussion to try and help others see each side's point of view?

I don't insert myself into these discussions publicly. I do often contact these members privately to see if we can come to a resolution.

2. Erase offending posts without explanation?

I don't erase posts often. When it happens it's because of a blatant conduct violation (like when I deleted the pornography posted by RM.. or similar)... I also delete ad spam and love spam pretty frequently, without anyone usually noticing. Grey area things involve a conversation among several members to determine if it should be deleted.

3. with explanation?

If a high profile deletion were to take place that needed an explanation it would be explained.

4. Ban first, ask questions later?

There's always a discussion before a ban happens. This is for either a temp-ban or a perm-ban (RM being the only example). In a case where a member needed to be perm-banned, and it was possible, a trial would take place.

5. Lay back in cut until one person has a gun to the other's head and then try to talk them down Colombo-style?

What?

6. Other?

Perhaps.
