I find myself bored. Propose your topic below, I'll decide if I want to debate it.

All are welcome. One will be selected.

LD/PF topics welcome, if it comes to that.

My creating this thread indicates that I'm dissatisfied with the present challenges, btw.

I've always wanted to do an LD topic in the actual LD structure. For instance by multiplying the number of minutes in a round by 1000 to set a max character limit for each round. CX would be in the comments and we could probably post it in round. If you are interested in doing one in that format, I'd be interested in doing any of the old NFL LD topics though I find these topics particularly compelling:

Resolved: Economic sanctions ought not be used to achieve foreign policy objectives.

Resolved: Military conscription is unjust. - I'd be Pro.

Resolved: On balance, violent revolution is a just response to political oppression. - I'd be Pro.

I'll definitely consider it. Where do you stand on economic sanctions, out of curiosity?

Undecided.

Do you have a preference about which side you would argue? The reason I ask is because there is mixed evidence about the efficacy of economic sanctions, and debating the moral issues of economic sanctions is equally problematic because of the extent to which the impact sanctions have varies equally as widely.

I believe evidence suggests that economic sanctions have been more efficient when the US has been the only superpower as opposed to during the Cold War and before WWII. I am not entirely sure about this so I'd need to research that topic. I'd prefer to argue Con on the resolution "ought not to be used" i.e. I would support economic sanctions being used if it is in the current environment.

I'll throw some debate topics out:

Yutori kyoiku reforms were harmful to Japan (Either side; I'm undecided)

We ought to reintroduce social guidance films (a la Coronet 1960s) into schools (Pro)

Rousseau's development on the patterns of religious thought was negative (Pro)

Grammar ought to re-introduced into the high school English curriculum (Pro)

I also have a few lighthearted topics like 'Names that are shortened sound worse' . I'll think of more proper topics and post as the thought comes... my current offering is pretty lacklustre. Actually, add minimum wage to the above if that won't bore you to death; I'm Pro and have debated the subject a few times.

=O No H.P. Lovecraft novels? He's one of the best horror writers to ever live, in my opinion, and his prose is hauntingly beautiful:

"West of Arkham the hills rise wild, and there are valleys with deep woods that no axe has ever cut. There are dark narrow glens where the trees slope fantastically, and where thin brooklets trickle without ever having caught the glint of sunlight. On the gentle slopes there are farms, ancient and rocky, with squat, moss-coated cottages brooding eternally over old New England secrets in the lee of great ledges; but these are all vacant now, the wide chimneys crumbling and the shingled sides bulging perilously beneath low gambrel roofs. The old folk have gone away, and foreigners do not like to live there. French-Canadians have tried it, Italians have tried it, and the Poles have come and departed. It is not because of anything that can be seen or heard or handled, but because of something that is imagined. The place is not good for imagination, and does not bring restful dreams at night."
- The Colour Out of Space -
"See now Oblivion shimmering all around us, its very tranquility deadlier than tempest. How little all our keels have troubled it."
- Lord Dunsany -

"The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born? "
- W. B. Yeats -

You said you would have a music debate with me at one point...

And you were going to debate National health care with Subutai.

There are a few I know people often debate based on conspiracies.
- The holocaust never happened
- JFK was assassinated by the Mafia
Also a few that come up a lot at work.
- Assisted suicide
- Drug use being allowed, if it doesn't effect work.
Some that my friends like.
- If famous ( or infamous ) court cases had just verdicts ( Casey Anthony, OJ Simpson, Supreme court decisions )
- Legalized segregation
- Legalized drug use

Tell me what you think.
