How would you define life in a debate case?

If you're debating formally, chances are pretty slim of anyone challenging a definition of "life", since the idea of biological life is simply understood among debaters. Semantic arguments about what constitutes "life" are probably outside of the resolution, and need to be addressed as such.

Depends on what you need the definition for.

Life is the series of events that constitute existence.

Life is the temporary functionality of a collective of cells.

Or, for solipsism:
Life is the mind's connection with its current dream, or false reality.
