I am just curious.

Does it facilitate debating?
Is it a social tool for debaters to use in their leisure time, as opposed to master professionally?

It seems that those two them are very prominent in this site.

Much better than CreateDebate and SodaHead though, I must say.

Provides a medium in which members can debate and discuss topics. This site also has a developed mafia network, if you're into that sort of thing.

Debate.org is an online debate website designed to provide an easy and free platform for people to challenge each other intellectually via debates and open forum communication.

This answers your question on every level, unless you're trolling for semantics.

The site itself is very passive, if that's what you're wondering. It is completely user directed.

The claim is based on the opinion of the author, I see no evidence to support it.

For a debate site, I find that a weak attribute of its r"sum".
