To me a lot of the complaints against the voting system, would be fixed by this simple seeming idea. Basically last minute votes would never decide anything, since a last minute vote would add time to the voting clock.

What do you all think?

Yeah, I've always thought something like this would be a good idea, probably. I could see people trolling with it though.

Yes trolls would still exist, but their power over voting decisions would be decreased by a significant margin.

Why do voting periods end at all? They should be left open for ever.

This was actually an idea that we had a long time ago, but it was dropped so that we weren't asking Juggle of too many things. Now would probably be a great time to bring it back, since voting is a key focus currently.

I don't believe that there will be an issue with "trolling" since no one will really keep the debates going much longer than normal. Some people might troll and extend a few days, but they'll always get bored and move on.

Because it would mean trolling never ends. I had a guy vote bomb 15 of my old debates in the space of five minutes. I noticed and so got the vote bombs countered by Airmax, but if I had left the site it would have gone unopposed. All the old open debates should be closed. It's like, "Why doesn't baseball allow umpire calls to be reviewed forever?"

I'd like to see the default voting period increased from 3 days to 10 days. There are so many trash debates, the few good ones sometimes expire before I see them.
