Theres a bit of talk going around where people complain about not getting enough votes on debates, and while Juggle and Airmax are working out possible solutions to increase votes, I dont recall anyone ever actually asking DDO why they dont vote on debates.

So here we are

This is a survey asking people why they dont vote on debates. All you have to do is simply leave your name next to the option that states why you dont vote. You can add answers if you want, and you can leave your name with more then one answer if you choose.

So feel free to vote!

=================================================================

Reasons why I/you dont vote on debates

A) If the debates are way too long to read I wont vote because its like homework

(Imabench)

B) Debates are too boring and Ive heard all the arguments for each side a dozen time already

C) I dont want to get harassed by debaters/friends about how I vote on their debates

(Imabench)

D) Im flat out too lazy to vote on debates most of the time

(Imabench)

E) Im on DDO for forum stuff, not debates

C and occasionally, D. I enjoy the intellectual benefit of reading serious debates, so neither A nor B fit. I also use this site for debates more than I do for the forums, so E isn't right, either.
I'm becoming less defined as days go by, fading away, and well you might say, I'm losing focus, kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself.

C, D, and adding some letter that doesn't exist yet (though I'm surprised it wasn't present from the start): I'm not interested in whatever the debate is about.

I always vote on debates when people ask me over PM. The length or subject doesn't usually matter too much to me, I'll still vote when asked (excluding obnoxious asking). I just don't always vote because I don't actively search for debates to vote on.

A, B, C, D, depending on the debate &/various other circumstances (E.x. Mood, busy, etc.) I do have 3 other reasons for not voting on certain debates:
1) Not confident enough that I grasp the subject matter sufficiently
2) It's a tie - both sides did equally well, or I just can't decide who did better
3) Voting period time expires - there are many debates that I have read which I couldn't vote on because they were/entered the post voting period. (There are times that I've even started preparing an RFD, but time expired before I finished and voted.
4) There are certain topics that I have no interest/familiarity with, and thus have no desire to read those debates. (This is why I've proposed having a way of searching debates in the voting period, by subject. Or divide the debates of each subject type, by what time period (i.e. debating, voting, etc) they're in.))
I cannot write in English, because of the treacherous spelling. When I am reading, I only hear it and am unable to remember what the written word looks like."

I won't vote on a debate if I'm not interested in the topic. (e.g., sports, pop music)

I won't vote on a debate if it's long debate between novices who don't promise to bring much in the way of new insights.
