Today we have launched a new section of the site, Polls.

The concept of polls and polling people for their opinions is something that nearly everyone is familiar with and flows well with the rest of features on the site. Our goal with this section is to provide members a simple way to understand each other"s viewpoints and serve as a jumping off point to debate on specific topics. Polls will also serve as a mechanism to draw new members into the site while providing a platform to work their way up to long form debates.

To learn the specific details about Polls, check out our Release Notes - http://www.debate.org...

As always, if you experience any issues/bugs, please report them in this thread - http://www.debate.org...

Opinions and polls do share similarities. The Opinion section, by its structure is a variation of a poll. The key difference is what is expected and/or required by the user to participate in each.

With Opinions, the questions can only be answered by yes/no choices and need to be accompanied with an argument to provide context.

Polls are structured to allow for multiple answers, can be presented in multiple layouts and only a vote is required.

but seriously: wasn't the main objection to "opinion" and the main fear was that it'd result in everything just "dumbing down" and therefore remove the USP which made this site popular compared to its competitors in the first place? At this point, if createdebate added a half-decent "debate" system (not necessarily well implemented even) it'd probably be the mimic of this site. Same with its competitors.

.....how about a new feature we've been asking for...like team debates? How has that been progressing? We had the poll and the mock debate....
Also. Love the chatroom idea.

Seems better than the opinions, and they accomplish pretty much the same thing. Now phase out the opinions.
I'm becoming less defined as days go by, fading away, and well you might say, I'm losing focus, kinda drifting into the abstract in terms of how I see myself.

Yes, and get rid of the debate thing. And limit everything to 140 characters. ...

I think it is a mistake to mimic the brain-challenged social networking sites. DDO's niche should be for defending opinions rather than just stating them.

Glad to see polls. The opinion section was cluttered with people making false dilemmas.

If anything, you should have kept opinions on your other site and put polls there too. There is almost no reason for this to be here. I doubt that many established users will use the feature on a regular basis, and I doubt that those who go to a site called "debate.org" in order to click a single button want to contribute anything worthwhile.

Seems kind of superfluous to me ... it isn't necessarily a bad feature, but it isn't necessarily good either, just extra..... maybe a little bit redundant given that it looks almost exactly like the opinion section.

Epsilon: There are so many stories where some brave hero decides to give their life to save the day, and because of their sacrifice, the good guys win, the survivors all cheer, and everybody lives happily ever after. But the hero... never gets to see that ending. They'll never know if their sacrifice actually made a difference. They'll never know if the day was really saved. In the end, they just have to have faith.

I have one recommendation concerning the polls. The choice to make your vote anonymous. We could even use it for the DDO elections.

Wasn't the point of forum-based DDO elections that the votes would be open and visible (so that no one could cheat)?

Yeah, well, 'Team Debates' are done entirely within the current framework. That isn't Juggle doing anything, it's us doing exactly how Team Atheism and Team Theism was done half a year ago, except this time it received more publicity and support.

This is ridiculous. I get that Juggle is a business, but dammit, I really don't care right now. Seriously. This place is just getting dumbed down, over and over again.

The future of this site can be seen in the upper section, I think.
