What do you think if a debate between two debaters has an option to only proceed when it has at least a certain amount of people who have vouched that they will be keen spectators and voters of the debate, The spectators could also achieve some type of special member rankings for their votes.

No, Modern Simplified Troll.

Northern troll sounds more like, "U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8 U WOT M8."

The number of serious debates and people interested in serious debate is too small for that to work. Very few debates would continue. Debates are done mainly for the interest of the two debaters and the two or three people who vote on it. Occasional something catches on, but not often.

And that's my point Roy, What is the point of proceeding with a debate if there are not going to be any independent voters or spectators, It seems pointless to me to waste my valuable time in putting all the effort it takes in completing in debates, when we are not even sure that anybody is going to bother reading or voting or them, Apart from the biasness of those who are already friends of the opponents.

The point that remains is to improve your skills as a debater and improve knowledge of the subject. That's accomplished even if no one but your opponent reads the debate. Is that enough to make debating worthwhile? That's up to each person to decide. I'm moving in the direction of "no, it's not."

I think bias by friends voting is overstated. What happens is that if you make good arguments, friends who agree with you will vote for you. If you don't make good arguments, they will quietly move on without voting. People don't want to sign on to losing arguments. Confirmation bias is something else, people will always favor arguments that they have made. (The site is about evenly divided between left and right ideologically.) That's a problem, but welcome to the real world. The alternative is technical judging, where the judges count up drops and spelling errors. That's even less satisfying.

When there are only a few votes, there is a lot randomness in who happens to see the debate.
