Google "html marquees". That will give you some different effects with scrolling and stuff. Html effects in general are what allow you to do stuff like that, in which case google is your friend. DDO doesn't format all of them correctly though.

Just a disclaimer: do not abuse html effects. Some of them can actually hinder your opponents responses, which makes me telling you about this slightly a liability. Members have been banned in the past for abusing html. Just be careful.

What's the line between using them and abusing them?

Actually I am not even sure if marquees will work in debates, I haven't tried it yet. But they work in messages I think.

Also quite annoying as it can break message threads (turning the background black in all following messages).

Yeah, you shouldn't do it on serious messages, members have gotten in trouble for that.

I think mainly just not throwing the debate out of whack with them. IE, not allowing your opponent to respond with them. I am fairly sure there are HTML codes that could block out the screen so voters couldn't read the opponents side, etc. Or even changing the color of a debate against the advice of site moderators, has been known to result in bannings. Just don't use them for what you don't need to use them for basically.

If you want to make your text fancy, or want to spice up your debate argument, just moderate and use careful thinking at the extent you go.
