***Current News***

From Juggle
Juggle recently announced that we will be receiving some new site changes this Wednesday (January 22nd, 2014). Specific details on what these updates will be are to be revealed the day of the release. Juggle also announced in this forum that members will have viewable ads as well. This is to help Juggle finance the website, so that they have more resources to push out different development changes for the site.
The thread with more specific details concerning the issues noted above can be found here: http://www.debate.org...

Official Tournament Progress

The 2nd DDO official tournament is making good progress right now. Here is an update of what is going on in each tier.

Novice tier: This is set to move into round 2, in less than 24 hours when Jopo"s and Abunai"s debate voting period has ended. Despite this being a novice tournament, some of these debaters have been performing at an expert level, and I have to say I am very impressed with the current turn-out so far.

Intermediate Tier: This round has moved into the semi finals after the completion of a few top notch debates! The winners of the first round were: bullish, origami, seventhprofessor, and moralityprofessor. Each debater did great, and I am excited to see who makes it to the finals. Debaters are currently in the stage of choosing their topic for round 2. The official thread can be found here:

Experts Tier: This round is prepped and ready to move into the semi finals in less than 2 days time, when bsh1 and themohawkninja"s voting period ends. So far there have been great debates in this tier! Ore_ele and imabench decided to move to round 2 a bit early, because of a special circumstance regarding Ore_Ele needing to limit the time spent on debate.org. I have given them permission to move on early, so replacements won"t have to be sought out, and the process will be slightly more official.
The other tournaments I noted in last week"s update, are still going on as well, and presumably doing pretty well.

Drama

Some of you know that there has been a lot of drama eruption over the last week. This isn"t something new, and we see it time and time again. The best thing I can say is if you want to have a discussion with someone, then by all means discuss it, debate, hash it out. This is a debating website, and it is to be expected. But there is a big problem with insults going on lately, and my request to anyone this might involve, is to please not use them. Some members have been trying to justify them with the whole "well they started it" stuff. I think the best way to solve this, is if you were insulted and it was un-provoked, just inform airmax of the insult, and please do not retaliate. Fighting back with more insults will only create more insults. If you absolutely cannot let it roll of the shoulder, the moderator will take the appropriate action necessary. It should also go without saying that we should refrain from also insulting a members family, etc. A debating environment will always have conflict, but we can still keep it professional without having to ban prominent members. If you have any questions about any of this, feel free to contact me about it and I will be happy to talk to you about this. You know the moderation here is relax, and airmax will always take every step necessary to give a member a chance to change their behavior, to work out a compromise, or to apologize before any major actions are taken. I think it is also worth mentioning since a few members are still confused about the subject, that I do not have moderator abilities. I will however work closely with airmax on most disputes, so if you have any problems I can definitely talk to him about them, but your quickest response will be from airmax1227 himself if the issue isn"t so controversial like the removal of a vote bomb, etc.

Vote Bombing

As always, I have been receiving a few complaints about vote bombing. Lately however, I have been seeing some of the more controversial reports as well, concerning more prominent members who I don"t think fully had the intention of vote bombing. I think the best solution is if you feel you have been vote bombed, but don"t think it was intentional, or that the voter may have mis-understood something, would be to contact the member personally explaining what exactly wasn"t accurate with his/her vote. Most of the time the member will take a look at their vote, and either remove it, or clarify their reasoning a little better. If this step has been taken and the member still refuses to change their vote, you can of course contact me and airmax about it, and we can decide whether it needs to be removed or not. But again, I think the best potential deterrent to this, is to contact the member first. From my experience, it is usually one of the most effective way to have someone justify their vote, especially if the member is a prominent member.

***Presidency Updates***

I have contacted many members, and have been gathering ideas for specific plans for the site. I have gathered what I feel is sufficient feedback for the better moderation of the polls, and a better advertising regulation of quality debates on the homepage. I have submitted a list of the gathered feedback to Alex, and am currently waiting for a response on the progress. I will update you as I am further notified of the progress. I have also mentioned some of the more increasing and necessary update suggestions that members have been voicing in feedback threads and elsewhere. I made sure to put an emphasis on forfeited debates, as that is one of the more controversial updates members have been requesting.

**Outstanding members***

I am not going to do this myself this week, because Mikal has already made some threads recognizing some of Debate.org"s members. I will simply re-direct you to those threads. Thanks so much Mikal, for taking notice of your fellow members positive traits!
