I want to take some time to acknowledge some of the best forum threads I've seen lately. As you guys all know, I typically like the politics, personal and society columns the most and I've got one from each plus a bonus thread I'd like to kick start since it's been overlooked.

From the Politics column:

==> Lannan's "I Side With 2014" thread

http://www.debate.org...

What I like about this is that it not only provides a metric for determining the extent to which those who take the linked survey agree or disagree with major US political parties, but that it provides a platform for discussing those similarities and differences. We like quizzes on DDO, for sure, and I think this is the best I've seen in a while. Props to Lannan for posting this!

From the Personal column:

==> Bsh1's "American Dream" thread

http://www.debate.org...

The American Dream is as multifaceted as is American society, and this thread's essential question is one that we should all ask ourselves. "What does success mean?" What kind of lives do we want for ourselves? No matter what age we are, we all have choices to make to achieve the goals we set -and our individual American dreams are surely goals worth aspiring to. While there are some who deny it, there is something uniquely inspiring about the idea of a truly free society's prospect of upward mobility. That is why I want to give Bsh1 an e-high five for this really excellent post.

From the Society column:

==> Katebutler's "Do you support gay marriage?" thread

http://www.debate.org...

This thread epitomizes everything DDO should be all about! The OP asks a basic question and solicits others to weigh in, in effort not only to test and better understand her own position, but to wrestle with the moral stakes of this issue. It's complicated, and this thread is an invitation to dialogue that -despite some rough patches- has I think been one of the more productive threads in the society column's recent history. Keep it real, Kate!

AND NOW THE BONUS THREAD!

==> Bobbert's "Ukraine Uprising" thread

http://www.debate.org...

Even though I'm not a fan of Al Jazeera, the OP hits close to home for me. Ukraine is the most significant flash points for modern democratic progression of our time. As a Cold War legacy caught between post-Soviet bloc tension and western Liberal democracy, what happens in Ukraine now could have lasting implications for Eastern Europe and the EU for decades to come. Even if you don't post about it, you should know what's happening there. A richly deserved e-high five to Bobbert for this, as well!

Does the weekly stupid not count as a forum thread?
