***Current News***

From Juggle

Last Friday some updates were pushed through. Some of these updates are as follows:

- Faster load times on the opinion topic pages by adding a "load more" button after a designated number of arguments
- New Argument Discussion pages that create a new page for opinion arguments that spur a lot of back and forth discussion. These will be linked directly within the opinion argument itself.
- Inline argument submission - no more pop-ups to add your argument on an opinion topic
- Simplified sign up pop-ups for non-logged in users who initiate an action that is for members only

Official Tournament Progress

All three tournaments are currently in the semi-final round, and wrapping up their completion. There have been some pretty amazing debates all around in this competition. Congratulations to everyone so far outstanding work and motivation in the debates.

Tier 2 Intermediate's: http://www.debate.org...

Drama

Just as with last week's update, drama has inevitably continued. I am not going to go over all of it, but I will say again: If you don't want to be involved in drama, your place in civility with the discussion will determine how far out of it you stay. This is a debate site, and everybody has their opinions. But there is no need to be hostile to another member for an opinion, even if the member first started the interaction in a negative manner. It pays to be civil and by doing so you will likely avoid drama altogether. However, if a member does insult you or harass you despite being civil, report that member. There is no need to engage back. Most of the community already know and follow these rules, and your professional conduct is appreciated.

Presidential updates

So some of you may know the situation with Juggle, however for those who are new to this, I will re-iterate.

Juggle has stated in the past that their limited amount of resources has restricted their abilities to provide a lot of the updates some of the more active members have been requesting. However, as Juggle is a company, in order to sustain itself and the website they need to divulge most of their resources into avenues that will generate the most traffic, as more traffic will ultimately make more money.

The methods being used to attract more members are commonly complained about as some members feel they detract from true purpose of the site. With that being said, I have been trying to push for higher prioritization for the many debate oriented updates members have been suggesting. Some of the main ones, are of course Team debates, a debate.org app, changes to the voting categories, etc. Some of these updates have been pushed lower on the prioritization scale because of the fear that they might not initially bring in more traffic, thus more revenue.

The most efficient way to deal with this, I believe is to outline an a presentation to Juggle to demonstrate the benefits some of these updates can bring if pushed through. I plan on making this presentation to Juggle soon, outlining options on how they will produce traffic, content, and quality to the website. Why am I telling you all this? Because before I make an official presentation on this, I think it is only fair to open up ideas for additions to this presentations to the community. If you think you have any compelling arguments, statistics, or suggestions on how to make the presentation sound more appealing, let me know. I will leave this open to discussion for about a week or so before officially sending it in. If we want these updates back to the top of the list, we are going to have to sell the company that their developers time will be well spent into such avenues. I am assuming the first item of prioritization among most of the community is that of team debates and voting changes, so this is what I hope to work on first and foremost.

Thankyou in advance for any suggestions for the presentation!

I was actually pretty disappointed with how my debate on contingent Christian pacifism went. My opponent's arguments were rather weak and I didn't really get to expound to much on the doctrine.

I appreciate the mention, though. I really like these updates and TUF's effort to better the community.

Thanks for making these. The quality debates section is a great addition.

Thankyou. I didn't realize until I started this, that finding debates that don't end in a forfeit or a concession is pretty difficult. I had to scroll through pages and pages to find these, and went through a lot of the prominent debaters profiles. With that said, I am still probably missing a lot of good ones. If people send there debates in though, I would be more than happy to feature them here.

At the least the debate had an attempt at arguments, and was in need of votes lol. It was still better looking than many of the debates I was debating about putting in here, before changing my mind based on the lack of quality. Plus, from experience I knew you were a good debater, so the debate itself would probably be good in turn.

I appreciate the mention, though. I really like these updates and TUF's effort to better the community.

Thanks :)

Yes, I'm pm you when I discover another gem. I tried to call attention to this debate: http://www.debate.org...

Great RFD btw. It's still a great read post voting period for anyone interested in the role of introverts and extroverts in Western Society.
