DDO should have it set up so that if a Debate's voting period ends without a single vote, the timer should be reset. No one should have to work so hard on a debate for it to not get any votes and be left as a tie.

It only resets once, because if it doesn't get a vote still, than it clearly isn't that important...

In addition to that, voting should probably not end within a day of either a vote coming in, or a vote being removed.

Most of the ties are 0-0. Many of them are for debates in which neither side put much effort into the debate. It's difficult to judge debates that are a total mess, so people just skip over them. However, sometimes a reasonable debate is overlooked or, more commonly, one side forfeited repeated so no one bothers to read the debate.

Maybe 0-0 ties could be put on a list to draw attention to them. Every debate is 0-0 at the start of the voting period, so the list would be an automatically generated "unvoted debates" list. Also, if voting ends with 0-0, the site software could look to see if one side has forfeited during the debate and automatically award the conduct point to the person who didn't forfeit.

Leaving unvoted or tied debates open invites harassment. A vote bomber can at any time go back and vote against a member in any open debate, thereby scoring a loss and closing the debate. Yes, DDO trolls are smart enough to think of that.

Perhaps, then, if a quality debate does go un-voted for the duration of a period, a select group of voting officials (maybe TUF, Airmax, and yourself?) just go in and vote on it themselves.
That would probably be a lot of work for that voting committee though.

It only takes one person to be on the "voting committee," so anyone who wants to can do it. I try to vote on a bunch of these. DDO now has a voting review board that judges whether votes were adequately justified. I've voted less since that started, since I don't want another debate justifying a difficult vote.

I recommend that you take up the challenge of voting these. New debaters really appreciate any feedback they get, but it's often difficult sorting out what's going on. As you suggested, it's a lot of work.

Voting Committee? You mean VOTE SQUAD.
