What is your favorite debate that you've done and why?

I'll start.

I was reminiscing over this one that I did with a Holocaust denier: http://www.debate.org...

It really stands out to me because (1) I didn't realize that these people were real or that anyone except dogmatic Iranians actually believed this, (2) the amount of historical research I had to do was astounding, but it ended up being really interesting, and (3) writing it was fun because it felt like a public service, a systematic refutation of the most common denier claims.

This: http://www.debate.org...

It was an awesome debate--and really close. I love really close debate, especially when they're high quality and close. I felt strong throughout, and was given an amazing challenge. Overall, on of the best rounds I've been in. Ever.

I've got a few candidates for differing reasons. In my ironically humble opinion, I thought this one was a both funny and thought-provoking satire (though admittedly it was pretty one-sided): http://www.debate.org...

This animal rights one I think is the best completed one: http://www.debate.org...

And this one with undefeated Subuntai is turning out to be very interesting, but it's not finished yet: http://www.debate.org...

This is actually also one of my favorite debates on the site, mostly because it's rare that I've seen it done all the way through (not resulting in FFs or getting way off course) and because you both did an excellent job on it. Your opponent, to his credit, also went through the conventional holocaust denial arguments pretty well. I read it while being as objective as I could (as objective as any Jew possibly could I believe) and was sure to make my vote on it as thorough as possible due to my natural bias regarding the topic. I like to think I voted on it fairly, though being that I'm Jewish that's debatable, but I like to think my RFD is fair.

I've gotten involved in these arguments in person a fair number of times, but it was really great to see this topic debated in a formal way on DDO. It's certainly one of my favorite debates on the site and you should be proud of it Bluesteel.

Aww thanks Airmax. I appreciate that. Glad you enjoyed it so much.

I can't imagine debating someone like that in person. I got really frustrated with my opponent the farther we got into the debate, but the detachment of it being an online debate definitely helped.

From the experience of a lot of in-person debates, it does get really, really frustrating when your opponent is making a really, really dumb argument and you can't just go off on them. Takes a lot of self-restraint from just jumping up and explaining to them just exactly how stupid they're being.

With Pozessed:http://www.debate.org...

While my debate on Transhumanisation was the most fun debate I've ever done, and the Gay Marriage debate I did was good, this one is my centerpoint of success.

I can certainly understand your frustration. These types of people are definitely out there and in my younger days I enjoyed arguing with them whenever the opportunity presented itself. It's definitely a different dynamic doing it in person informally as one can pull any conspiracy theory out of nowhere, and that's especially frustrating.

I recall giving your opponent the benefit of the doubt that he simply wanted to debate the merits of the conventional wisdom of the holocaust narrative, and I think that's legitimate. I'm not a fan of European speech censorship that prevents it, as it seems to reinforce the idea of what your opponent called "Our greatest taboo". These arguments should be encouraged because they ultimately show how ridiculous they often are.

I stopped giving your opponent the benefit of the doubt, when a year later, he did another debate; "Zionist-Jewish Networks Should Be Considered as Some of the Most Probable Perpetrators of 9/11". I think it's pretty clear what his beliefs are.

I think it's safe to say that it was an historic moment for the site. Even better, the "trolling explanation" video you did that spawned from that was hilarious.

I have to give this one a mention: http://www.debate.org...

Thett was doing a debate where he was posting all of his sources in an outside debate. His plan was to make the debate, then quickly cancel the debate so that he could have his external sources but not an open debate that someone could accept.

I kinda beat him to canceling it :P 'Twas pretty fun.

This one was also fun: http://www.debate.org...

It was me and thett debating whether or not we should be trying to conquer Africa, with a twist...

http://www.debate.org...

This debate made me miss Koopin. Watch the video pls T_T

I'm guessing that nobody really cares about my fav debates since I'm not well known on the site, but here they are anyways...

About the Redistribution of Wealth. I ended up getting convinced by my opponent, but it was a fun one :D

This was my first debate that actually felt like a real, formal one on an important political issue
