Far too often I see people make a baseless assertion and tack on a footnote, as though it justifies the assertion.

That, my friend, is a bare-assertion fallacy, or even an appeal to authority if you're saying, "Here's a paper from Glenn Hubbard; clearly it must be credible."

So here's some advice: provide a quote from the article, or the 200-page academic paper you've cited. Makes it easier for everyone.

The wise have eyes in their heads, while the fool walks in the darkness; but I came to realizethat the same fate overtakes them both.
Then I said to myself,
"The fate of the fool will overtake me also.
What then do I gain by being wise?"
I said to myself, "This too is meaningless."
For the wise, like the fool, will not be long remembered;
the days have already come when both have been forgotten.
Like the fool, the wise too must die!

Well, this flurry of insightful posts demonstrates to me why DDO is collapsing. Calling a perfectly valid point dumb, without tiniest shred of evidence or analysis, is something many members of this site know all too well.
