Though it's a while away, I'm super pumped up for the 2014-2015 season. I'm going to try as hard as I can - and I would just like to ask other peoples opinions on which briefs are the best to get. I'm planning on ordering a full season's worth - so I really want advice on which one is the best for LD. Thanks for the input.

After looking into a decent amount of services, I have decided to pre order victory briefs (whenever it lets me preorder it). Although it is quite expensive - we will see how useful it will be. Thanks bsh1. You are such a good debater (and a role model to me), your opinion is highly valued by me.

Can you explain what these are? I've seen several of these debate package websites. What do they do when you purchase them? What are they?

Essentially, the point of these services is ton provide you with evidence do that you don't have to look it up yourself. Generally looking up stuff on the internet may not yield a sufficient amount of results, and researching in a library may take hours. These services generally have a research team that provide evidence for you, both affirmative and negative. Most of them (not all, but most) also provide a topic analysis. There are experts that analyse the resolution and steer you in the right direction of how to build your case. Generally speaking, the pint of these is to save time - and most of the time, the evidence that you get with briefs is hard to find by yourself. And the analysis is nice to have, so that you know how to approach the topic. Hopefully I answered your question =)

Basically what King said, but only for National Forensic League Resolutions. You cannot, for example, present them with a resolution of your own and ask them to research it for you.

I feel exceedingly flattered :) Thank you, and I'm glad I can help out! but remember, still do your own research to supplement what the briefs provide.

Cool, but it seems like only a fool would pay 30.00$ for one of these info packs. Come on, what happened to wikipedia?

Ha ha. Yes - it might seem a little stupid, but sadly - if you want to compete it's almost impossible to without them. One time I went to a tournament (it was 5 rounds) I had won my first 2 rounds. I was quite happy, but by the time I got to the third round, I saw that my opponent had printed out one of these briefs. Honestly he seemed to have a counter for everything I was saying and I was quite surprised. I ended up loosing the round. It was not until a while later that I realized that you could buy this stuff. Yes it's expensive - and so I save up money for it.

I guess there good for competitions. Printing one out and sing it during the debate, feels like cheating. Your not really using your own argument.

I agree with that. But I think the judge didn't really observe him that well. The thing is that they are fine to use to bulls your case and lead you in the right direction. Now that I think about it - I find it funny that he printed it out . Generally briefs can be up to 200 pages.(that's a lot of info!) I guess that's why the pricing is so high

If you're referring to that thing which creates your debate arguments for you, I would have to say that it's cheating. Are those who don't have this supposed to just lose every debate against those who do have this?

Though it's actually not cheating, it tends to give people an unfair advantage. It doesn't mean you are going to lose if you don't use a brief. It just means that you have a disadvantage.
