Hello!

With all the soccer fever incumbent with the onset of the FIFA World Cup, it seems appropriate to host a FIFA-Themed tournament. Blade and I have discussed this, and decided to make this our administration's first Official DDO Tournament, meaning that the winner shall have their names emblazoned upon a stickied thread for all to see!

Because the format of this debate is similar to Daytona's, I have asked him to co-host this tournament with me and he's graciously agreed. I would like to coordinate the tournament so it coincides roughly with FIFA's schedule, then end date being July 13th.

There will be two stages to this tournament: Stage One: The Group Stage, and Stage Two: Sudden Death.

In the group stage, contestants will be sorted out into groups based on ELO rankings at the time sign-ups close. Each groups consists of four people, who will be asked to simultaneous debate one another. There will be no ties; and odd number of judges, or "referees," will be found to ensure no ties occur. Judges should only select a winner if that is the voting option available, or they should only award argument points if the system is a 7-point ballot.

The group stage set up will look like this:

Group 1
1
8
9
16

Group 2
4
5
12
13

Group 3
2
7
10
15

Group 4
3
6
11
14

Two people from each group will be eliminated, and two people will advance. Then, everyone will be re-ranked based on any changes to their ELO. They will then face off in a bracket structured around high-low pairings. This is Stage Two.

Once the tournament is concluded, a winner will be declared. Good luck, and please sign-up quickly!

Why would anyone watch it other than to see a bunch of cute guys sweating on a field and occasionally tearing their shirts off?

Neymar's face is fantastic, but his body is unimpressive...YYW doesn't have any cause for worry. I'd choose him over and international soccer celebrity any day.

100% Correct. There is not going to be any restriction on topics.

I would like to coordinate the tournament so it coincides roughly with FIFA's schedule, then end date being July 13th.

That doesn't seem feasible.

Yeah, games take 3 hours.... debates can take up to 3 weeks...

We could make debates snappier by setting lower maxes. However, the biggest time killer in TUF's tourney was finding consensus on topic.
