Can someone explain the ELO system for me? I just won 3 debates in the past two hours, yet my ELO has not updated. How does it work? Is my ELO stagnant for some reason?

BTW, my goal was to get a Elo of 4000 by weeks end. Is that possible? I'm debating several strong users at the moment, and I have good feelings on those debates.

elo increases in proportion to the elo of your opponent. Winning against a low elo player is not going to boost your elo.

I beat three people though. I know Mikal's ELO goes up with low skill opponents. Why hasn't it updated.

I ran the formula. Even if I were to debate someone with 2000 ELO, mine would go up 67. The system is obviously broken.

It can take a while to update the changes. Sometimes up to 24 hours, in my experience.

Alright. XLAV told me it takes awhile, but I had no idea it would take that long.

It gets adjusted when you first take the lead in the voting - or within a few hours at least. It can still vary up and down if your opponents ELO changes due them winning or losing different debates. It gets locked in at the end of the voting period.

The equation is:

C= 100 (W+9L)/10W, with C=change, W=winner's original elo, and L=loser's

Additionally, the instigator gets a 25 point bonus while the contender has a 25 point disadvadvantage. So if you want more ELO, it is faster to propose debates than accept them.

In that case, I should have about 90 ELO points on one of the debates

It updated. Did my calculations wrong, and it turned up 80 points short of 3400. Will have to double time it if I'm going to reach 4000 by the end of the week.
