The group, with their newfound military allies, huddled around a small campfire concealed in the woods. The only reason they were risking a fire was because they hadn"t heard or seen signs of a pursuit for the past hour, and they were desperate for at least some sort of comfort. An awkward silence hung over the entire party, the group of rebels not quite sure what to say to the marines who had just tried to tackle one of their own. Finally, Robert spoke up to break the silence. "So what"s the rest of the site like? Is everywhere as bad as it is here?"

Bladerunner just shook his head. "No, it"s varying. Some are worse than it is here. The entire debate section is in ruins after being hit with multiple missiles. Pretty much no one is left there. But a lot of the forums are still fighting back. Various resistance movements are popping up all throughout the different subforums, some holding their own and some not doing so well. From what I can remember, the resistance movement in the history forums are doing fairly well, but we"re getting wiped out in the Religions forums. And the polls and opinons sections are an open battleground; they haven"t been fully taken over yet. But none of this would"ve been possible if it weren"t for what"s been going on here in the DDO forums. News travels slowly right now, but news of what"s been happening here is what"s been inspiring other people to start fighting back. You guys have been making a difference." Bladerunner said, then thought about the last line and laughed a little. "Hell, you guys are the difference. Without you guys, DDO would just be an extension of edeb8 by now."

Proud looks were shared between the group, Thett even playfully nudging Robert"s side. "Hey, you were actually useful for once." Thett teased his best friend, who just laughed off the joke. But YYW wasn"t satisfied. "How"d they get through? Don"t we have firewalls for stuff like this? What happened to our defenses?"

Bladerunner nodded and started fishing around in one of his pockets. "We did. When the attack started, did you have any kind of phone signal or radio signal?" The group shook their heads. "No, we had nothing. Why?" Mikal asked, curious as to what that had to do with anything. Bladerunner finally pulled out a folded up piece of paper and tossed it over to YYW. "They flooded our systems with that error message, effectively overloading the system with junk to the point that our defenses couldn"t react in time to anything. It cut off any kind of communications signals as well, which gave them the perfect window to attack." The sergeant informed YYW, who unfolded the piece of paper to see what it was. All it was were a few lines of text:

"Active Server Pages error "ASP 0115"
Unexpected Error
/errors/500/default.asp
A trappable error (C0000005) occurred in an external object. The script cannot continue running."

YYW snorted before tossing the piece of paper back to the other marine. Tricky bastards. "So what did you need from us then? You said you needed our help?" YYW asked them. Bladerunner put the error message paper back in his pocket before looking back to YYW. "Well, we"re trying to figure out how their communications aren"t being crippled by their own weapon." Bladerunner informed, looking over to Ore_ele, who fished into his pack for a photo and handed it over to YYW. "Have any of you ever seen something like this?"

YYW looked at the photo and passed it around the group. The photo was a diagram for some kind of closed communications broadcast, a two-way phone on a closed line essentially. It would make sense that any other outside influence wouldn"t be able to affect it, meaning they could still communicate effectively while the rest of the world couldn"t.

Robert looked at the photo and nodded. "Yeah. Thett, do you still have your phone on you? Didn"t we take a picture of Jifpop with something that looked like this?" Thett seemed to remember what Robert was talking about, and nodded. "Yeah, gimme a sec." Thett said, fishing around in his pockets before coming out with a small flip-phone. A few seconds of button pressing later, and Thett tossed the phone over to Ore_ele. "Is that what you"re looking for?"

Ore_ele looked at the photo for a few moments, before handing it to bladerunner, who also looked at the picture for a while, before nodding and tossing the phone back to Thett. "It"s what we thought it was, then. A closed-circuit communications device. Probably lets them hear back from their commander without being slowed down by local communications. If we can get our hands on this"" bladerunner started, thinking about the possibilities that having it would open up for the resistance fighters. "It would be the first step to taking DDO back."

Thett laughed in disbelief. "So, what, we storm their command center here, just grab the box and waltz out? We have zero chance of that working." TUF looked at Thett like he was about to slap the kid and held up his rifle. "Listen, dumbsh*t, you see this? This is a marine and his rifle, the baddest sh*t kicking weapon on the face of the planet. Now, I"m still breathing, so we have a chance." TUF finished, Thett just rolling his eyes in response. "It shouldn"t be too hard. We can set up somewhere within the city, and sneak in. Their central command center is in the old police offices, so there"s plenty of room for us to move around in and find what we"re looking for and get out before they even know what hit them."

YYW sat silently, staring off into oblivion, contemplating the proposal. It was an incredibly risky job to pull off; there would be guards everywhere and combing that place for a relatively small object would be tricky if they were trying to stay unnoticed. Then again, they didn"t really have much of a choice: their group had their backs against the wall already, with very little in the way of supplies and nowhere to go. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. YYW nodded slowly; they almost had to at least try. "But with what supplies? Our main base where we kept all of our supplies and ammunition was just hit and we lost pretty much everything. All we have now is what we have on our backs." YYW had to ask. "We have a supply cache a few miles to the north. We can resupply off of it, then find a place to set up within the city before we give this a go. We"ll need a place to fall back to within the city after we get out with the box, so that we can rest and then get out of the city."

YYW just nodded. "Then that"s our best bet. We"ll get moving in the morning, resupply, and get into the city by evening. We"ll find a place to base up in, set up there, and then we"ll hit the command center by nighttime." YYW said, looking around at the rest of the group. YYW saw a lot of nervous eyes, uncertainty, fear, doubt. But all of them were behind him, and were willing to give it a try.

Bladerunner just nodded before wiggling his body into a more comfortable position. "Then you better get some rest. Tomorrow"s going to be a busy day."

---

It was evening by the time the group made it into the city. Resupplied with enough supplies to keep them going for a few more days, as well as enough weapons and ammunition to take on a small army, they smuggled everything past the checkpoints and went into the city. It wasn"t too long before the group came across an abandoned apartment complex, closed for renovations that never came, that they decided would serve as a good enough hideout.

Then began the bunkering down. The group began fortifying the place as much as they possibly could. Doors and windows were barricaded, claymore mines prepared in choke-points to painfully eliminate any intruders, and rooms set up for people to rest in after the mission was over. As soon as the apartment complex was as secure as they could possibly make it, they loaded up and began the trek over to the command center.

"The place is a friggin" fortress. How are we supposed to get in?" Mikal asked, looking around at the rest of the group as they overlooked the police offices from a neighboring office building that had long since been abandoned. Bladerunner shook his head. "There"s gotta be a way. Guards have all the main entrances covered, and there"s irregular patrols combing the fence-line, so it"d be too risky to try and go in there. The only way I can think of would be the roofs, but we don"t have a way to get to them."

YYW shook his head. "No, there"s a way." He said, walking further down the hall to a different window, opening it and looking out. It was directly bordering the rooftop of one of the offices, with a sizable gap between the window and the roof, the window being above the roof of the offices. "The plan is we jump." YYW concluded, which got an amused snort from TUF. "Plan? That"s a sh*t sandwich without the bread. That"s one long jump to make, and even if you landed it, there"s two guards---" TUF started to object, but was cut off as YYW backed up a bit, getting a running start and leaping out the window at full speed. "Oh sh*t!" TUF said, both he and Bladerunner turning to the two guards on the roof. The two marines raised their suppressed rifles, gunning down the two guards silently before YYW landed on the roof, rolling to break the fall. YYW got up, dusted himself off a bit, before waving for bladerunner to jump as well.

TUF shook his head, surprised, but annoyed. "Stupid kids"" Bladerunner snorted in amused agreement. "I"m too old for this"" he complained, both marines getting a running start before making the leap as well. By the time the two marines had landed on the roof, YYW had fished a rope out of his backpack, waving to Mikal before tossing him the line. YYW took his end of the line and tied it up, waiting for Mikal to finish tying off his end so that the rest of the group could climb over to the rooftops.

Bladerunner rubbed his back, bruised by the leap and hard impact. "So he pulls that out after we bust our a**es jumping over""

Once the rest of the group had crawled their way down the rope, the silenced rifles of the three marines covering them, Bladerunner nodded and pointed to Bsh and Ore_ele. "You two will stay up here as our Plan B. If you hear the sounds of DDOians getting their a**es kicked, give them something else to worry about." Bladerunner said before turning to the rest of the group. "The rest of us are going after the box. Any ideas on how to find it?" Mikal smiled and pointed to the door that offered access to the offices. A line of cabling was strewn out of the door, hooking up to an outer power box before heading through the door down into the offices. "We"ll follow the wires."

The group nodded and, with weapons raised, went into the door on the roof, and into the police complex.

---

YYW turned the corner out of the stairwell, entering a hallway. He scanned both sides, making sure the entire hallway was clear before waving the rest of the group forward, moving down the hallway and further into the complex. They moved silently, and as a coordinated group, each person knowing the stakes and what would happen if they were discovered. All they had to do was just stay hidden and avoid contact with anyone inside"

"Down." YYW called, instantly sending the entire group into a crouch. Two guards stumbled into the hallway from an intersecting hallway. One, a girl, stumbled a little moving forward as the second one, a guy, grabbed her by the waist and pulled her in close. Both of them were incredibly unsteady and, after the smell finally hit YYW, highly intoxicated. The girl seemed to toy with the guy for a while before slipping out of his hands, running further away from him, causing the guy to grin stupidly and stumble after her.

The group stayed motionless for another minute, making sure that the coast was clear before YYW signaled everyone to start moving again.

The hallway eventually came to a door, which the group stacked outside of. A nod of bladerunner"s head and YYW opened the door, moving out of the way for the rest of the group to file in before he went in, closing the door behind him. Robert let out a low whistle at the sight in front of them. "Welcome to sh*t"s creek dipsh*ts." TUF mused to himself.

Sitting in front of them was a hub of activity in what used to be the front lobby. Guards patrolled around the lobby area, with cabling running all across the ceiling and branching off into multiple directions. Mikal traced their wire with his eyes, following it across the ceiling and watching it split off into three different places. One went to a room that, if he remembered the layout of the place from the "bring-your-son-to-work-day" visits, held the computer servers and hard drives. The second went to what looked like a lounge area, and the third went to an office, which was currently being occupied by---

"I got eyes on Jifpop, and our wire goes there." Mikal said, and YYW just nodded.

"Okay, here"s the plan. Mikal, you"re on the lounge. YYW, take the office. You two," Bladerunner said, pointing to Robert and Thett, "take the server room. TUF and I will head to the front lobby and take up positions there to keep an eye on things from the ground." Bladerunner finished, looking around at the rest of the group before cracking a smile, patting TUF on the shoulder and began backpedalling for the door. "It"s a good day to die, gentlemen." Was his parting comment before vanishing into the hallway, TUF behind him.

Thett watched the two marines leave, a look of confusion on his face. "YYW, what"s he mean by that?" Thett asked, which got a laugh from YYW as he got up, rifle in hands. "Don"t worry about it Thett. Marines don"t die, we just go to hell and regroup." YYW joked as well, heading out of the door, Mikal following behind him. Thett watched the two brothers leave, mystified at the response, before he glanced at Robert, who shared his friend"s confusion. Thett blinked a few times before shaking it off and heading out the door, Robert right behind him.

---

9spaceking rubbed his forehead. He had been working on this stupid report of all the damage that had been caused by the stupid insurgents in this stupid city for hours at this point, and he was just about at his limit on paperwork. He glanced up from his computer, rubbing his forehead to try and dull the headache when a flickering of light caught the corner of his eye. He looked over to where it came from, but didn"t see anything in particular. He blinked a few times, thinking that all the paperwork was making him see things, before turning back to his computer, only to see the same flickering of light a moment later. This time 9spaceking looked over in time to see figures walking out of one of the offices. And he could"ve sworn that he was the only one left who was still working"

9spaceking shook his head, annoyed with life, before getting up and heading for the door. Something seemed off about those people, and he needed a break anyway. Might as well go see what the deal was.

---

Bladerunner and TUF walked their way down the hallway, eyes scanning each and every nook and cranny for any sign of guards, rifles ready for the slightest bit of movement. The pair of marines made it back to the staircase and descended another level to the main lobby floor. The door that exited the stairwell deposited them near the front doors, and the sight in front of them made TUF shake his head in disbelief.

The best positions for coverage of the lobby would be where they would and the opposite side of the doorways, using the walls as cover for any fire coming from the lobby. The only problem was that to get to the other side, they"d have to walk across a vast expanse of open area with absolutely nothing to hide behind. It was an area just asking to have the mission blown wide open, and they were going to have to cross it. TUF looked back to bladerunner, who just notioned to the other side with his head.

Bladerunner was pulling rank. Of course he would. The Corporal sighed, letting his rifle fall to his side in one hand as he took a deep breath, settling his nerves before he stepped out into the open, walking as calmly as he could over to the other side.

Each step was an agonizing experience. All it would take was one guy looking around to blow this mission wide open. One guy being curious would ruin absolutely everything. And running would only attract more attention, so he was forced to take this slow, leisurely pace that just dragged out the agony. TUF looked up, doing his best to ensure his gait was a calm, controlled one. Just a few more steps. Just a few more steps and the wall would keep him concealed. Just a few more---

TUF lurched forward a bit, pinning his back against the wall and letting out the breath he had held the entire walk. He waited a few moments, listening for any sign that he was spotted during his walk. Nothing. No talking, no shouting, no commotion, nothing. He wasn"t spotted. The corporal looked over to his sergeant, a look of disbelief on his face. Bladerunner"s face lit up with a silent laugh, as both sat in place and waited for any signs of trouble.

---

Mikal worked his way down the halls, eyes peeled for any sign of movement that wasn"t his own. He wasn"t used to doing stuff like this on his own, and he missed the comforting feeling of his brother backing him up, covering his back. But Mikal shook the feeling off; he had lived most of his life looking after himself, he could do it this time as well.

Mikal kept moving forward, making sure that the wire was always in his sights. He had to be getting closer to the lounge now. The wire took a turn in toward a door, and Mikal reached for the handle"

"Hey! Who are you?!" Came a shout that caused Mikal to spin around, rifle aimed up at the worker who came across the insurgent. "Don"t move! Don"t you dare mo"" Mikal started to warn before the worker ran away, frightened off by the gun. "Goddamnit!" Mikal cursed to himself, slinging the gun behind his back and racing after the worker. If the worker warned others about their presence, it would only get more difficult.

---

Robert opened the door to the server room, stepping aside to let Thett go in first before following right behind him, shutting the door and looking around. The room was lined with processing units and databanks, as well as cabinets and shelves. It could be anywhere in here. Robert looked over to Thett, who was busy lifting up couch cushions and looking under them. Robert just laughed at his friend. "Under couch cushions? Really? In a room full of tech the first place you look is the couch?" Thett just waved off the jab, lifting another cushion up and peering under it. "You never know where they"re going to keep it." was the justification Thett gave, which only got another snort of amusement from Robert. "It"s a highly valuable piece of military hardware, not your porn stash." Robert rebuked, only to get a sarcastic roll of the eyes from Thett.

Both of the teenagers jumped as the door opened behind them, the drunk couple from before staggering in to come face-to-face with the two insurgents. The lady took one look at the two of them, blinking a few times in shock and surprise. "Eeeekkkkkkkkkk!" came the shriek of shock and alarm, as both teenagers cursed and brought their rifles up to the two newcomers.

---

Bladerunner sat still, listening to the thud of running footsteps over his head, letting out a long sigh as he shifted the rifle in his hands to a more comfortable grip. It never just rains, it always has to pour...

He stopped cursing his bad luck for a moment to bring up his walkie-talkie to his mouth. "Ore_ele, our cover"s blown. Give us a Plan B to work with."

---

Ore_ele cursed silently, waving Bsh over and motioning to the equipment next to him. "Roger. Going loud now. We"ll take some of the heat off of you for as long as we can." He said, picking up one of the dead guard"s radios and the dead guard"s rifle before flipping it on. "Aaah! The DDO Elite! They are attacking!" he shouted, firing off a burst of shots. "Where!? How many!?" came the reply, but Ore_ele didn"t bother listening. "Get down! Aaah!" Ore_ele kept shouting and firing, watching Bsh pick up the rocket-propelled grenade launcher, hefting it over his shoulder before aiming it at the front of the complex at a group of guards before pulling the trigger.

WOOSH!

The grenade impacted in the center of the group, exploding and sending people and body parts flying. Bsh shook his head, mildly disturbed that he found making that much carnage thrilling, before loading another grenade into the tube.

---

Jifpop looked up from his desk as the door to his office was opened roughly. "What is it?!" he asked the man who opened it. "S-sir! We"re under attack!" came the reply from the shaky guard at the same time Jifpop"s communication unit began crackling with life. "Aaah! The DDO Elite! They are attacking!" came the warning from the guard, as gunfire erupted over the mic. Jifpop picked it up, pressing the on button and holding it up to his mouth. "Where!? How many!?" he asked the guard, but the guard was barely paying attention. "Get down! Aaah!"

Jifpop cursed, making a mental note to make sure that guard never got a decent posting in his life, before reaching under his desk and grabbing the communication box. He handed it to the guard. "Make sure they do not get their hands on this. Move it to location Bravo and make sure it"s secure." He told the guard, who nodded and rushed out of the room.

---

YYW cursed as the sound of alarms began filling the complex. He was so close to the offices and the mission had to get blown open. YYW shook his head, changing his priorities as he saw a guard run by carrying a large box in his hands. That had to have been it!

YYW chased after the fleeing guard, following him through doors and hallways until they were out near the main lobby. YYW raised his rifle to bring the guard down, only to watch him spasm as bullets raked his body from above, killing him and sending the box flying out of his arms and sliding across the ground.

YYW looked up to see who had the shot to see his brother standing at the railing, rifle raised and barrel smoking. His admiration for how much his younger brother had grown was short lived, however, as guards began returning fire to YYW, forcing him to take cover behind a desk. YYW watched as a guard began making a run for the box. "Mikal!" YYW called, knowing if he got up to go for it he would just get shot.

---

"Mikal!" he heard his brother call, and Mikal looked down and saw why. The guard was going to make it to the box before YYW had a chance to move. He had to get down there now. Mikal looked down at the distance from the second floor to the first one, then shrugged as he took a few steps back. "I got it!" he called, getting a running start before jumping up onto the railing and out toward the box.

By a combination of timing and sheer, utter luck, Mikal crashed into the body of the guard, softening his fall against the body of another person as they both collapsed into a pile of skin. Mikal rolled off first, shaking off the impact and putting a bullet in the guard he landed on before grabbing the box and taking cover behind a counter.

Thett and Robert were making their way down the hallway, cursing their bad luck of getting discovered as a group of guards entered the hallway they were in. The teenagers cursed, moving forward toward where the hallway made a four-way intersection with another hallway and took cover behind the walls as bullets flew through where they were previously. The teenagers did their best to return fire, keeping to the safety of the walls to avoid taking any hits themselves.

Their situation only got worse as Robert shouted a warning of guards coming down the other end, meaning they were stuck between two sets of guards. With Robert firing down one way and Thett firing down the other, both of them realized that if they stayed in their current position, they"d both be dead in a matter of moments. And neither of them were suicidal enough to walk out into a crossfire. The two shared a look, both knowing what had to be done.

"Split up!" they both shouted before heading down the intersecting hallways in opposite directions.

---

Ore_ele returned fire at guards in front of the complex from his superior roof-top position before the sound of an engine in the distance got his attention. Ore_ele turned his attention to a street nearby, and let out a long string of profanities when he saw what was coming. "Bsh! Tank incoming! We gotta bail!" he shouted, diving for cover as the tank"s main gun swiveled up toward their position and fired.

The force of the explosion knocked Bsh down onto his back. Bsh laid there for a few minutes, trying to let the ringing in his head calm down a little, and taking inventory to make sure that everything was still there. Once he counted two arms, two legs, and ten fingers and toes, he slowly got up and looked around for Ore_ele, who was busy shooting a few more guards. "We gotta go!" the marine finally shouted again, before moving away from the edge of the roof and moving toward a ladder on the opposite side of the roof. They could get down that way and make their way back to the hideout.

---

Bladerunner cursed, spinning back behind the wall to avoid eating a bullet and waited a few moments before spinning out again, firing off a burst of rounds toward where the guards were shooting at him from before he was forced back into cover. He looked over to TUF, who wasn"t having much better luck finding an opening. If only there was someone else who could take the heat off of"

Tink! Tink! Tink.

Bladerunner looked down at the ground between the two marines. What used to be a vast expanse of unoccupied space now housed a small, green-gray ball of metal in between the two of them. They had thrown a grenade. "Oh sh*t!" he shouted, diving away from the grenade as the explosive went off.

Bladerunner rolled over onto his back, coughing up the dust from the explosion as he picked himself up from the floor, looking over to TUF. TUF was sitting down, with his back against the wall, coughing as well. The only difference being that TUF was coughing up a crimson liquid instead of dust, and multiple pieces of metal shrapnel were sticking out of his chest and abdomen. A few more ragged breaths and TUF"s chest stopped moving.

---

YYW cursed and blindly fired his rifle above the desk for a few seconds, emptying the magazine and forcing the guards shooting at him to duck before sprinting over to where his brother was taking cover. This was getting messy fast, and they had to pull out now before things got more out of control than it already was. "Mikal, you gotta get out of here with that thing!" YYW said, reloading his weapon before popping up again to spray down fire at the remaining guards. Mikal looked back at him, a look of shock on his face. "Screw that! I"m not leaving without you!" Mikal replied, popping up and spraying a few bullets downrange before ducking back under the counter to reload. YYW grabbed his brother"s shoulder, giving him a shake. "Now is not the time to discuss this! You gotta get that thing out of here! I"ll be right behind you!" YYW said, pushing the box into his brother"s arms. His brother gave YYW a glare, clearly unhappy with the situation, but acknowledged the need to get the box out of the enemy"s hands. "You better be right behind me or I swear to god I"m gonna kill you!" Mikal said, firing off a few more bullets to get the guards to duck before running to where Bladerunner was, as both of them made their way out the side of the building.

YYW watched them leave before popping up and putting bullets in a few of the remaining guards before moving toward some of the offices. There was still one more score to settle and one more body to put into the ground.

---

Jifpop kicked open the door to the offices, pistol drawn and aimed forward as he began scanning the offices, moving forward to look in each and every cubicle. Last reported sight of the intruders was heading in here, and this was their best chance to recover the box.

What he wasn"t expecting was for the bookshelf to his left to fall down on top of him, as YYW came out from behind a desk to push it onto him.

YYW came around the desk, grabbing Jifpop and pulling him out from under it to throw him against a cubicle wall. YYW moved forward again, to grab him again and start wailing on him, but received a foot to the chest shoving him back as Jifpop got up, steadying himself and raising his hands to fight.

What came next was one of the most challenging hand-to-hand fights YYW had ever experienced. Every punch he threw met an arm to block or deflect it. Every elbow he threw met a forearm or met nothing at all. While YYW was larger and beefier than Jifpop was, Jifpop was definitely moving faster than YYW.

YYW raised his arm to block a punch thrown by Jifpop, only to take a knee to the gut in response. A flurry of punches and elbows came next, raining down on YYW"s head and chest as YYW was forced back and further back against Jifpop"s assault. It was only when jifpop went for a spin kick, sending his leg up and around toward YYW"s head that YYW ducked, surging forward with his shoulder to knock Jifpop off-balance and slamming him against a cubicle. YYW straightened up and sent one fist, two fists crashing into the sides of Jifpop"s face, then throwing an elbow only to have it meet air as Jifpop spun away.

YYW reset himself, readying himself for the next trading of blows as Jifpop reached behind his back, pulling out a knife and charging at YYW. YYW stepped back to avoid the first swing, leaning to the side to dodge the next, grabbing Jifpop"s knife arm on the third swing to prevent the soldier from stabbing him. The two struggled for a few moments, both fighting over control of the knife, before YYW just shoved the smaller man away, getting a few moments of respite.

YYW looked around frantically, looking for something he could use to counteract the knife that Jifpop was wielding. A desk chair was the first thing that came to sight, and YYW decided it would do as best it could. YYW grabbed the back of it, planting a solid kick downward at its base to break it off from the chair. YYW slid his hand through the back of it, now wielding it like a small shield as he readied himself for Jifpop"s next charge.

Jifpop advanced again, but this time YYW had the advantage. When jifpop sent his first knife strike, YYW thrusted forward with his make-shift shield, knocking Jifpop"s knife hand away before YYW pulled his shield arm back and sent the back of the chair crashing against Jifpop"s head, knocking him down against the floor. YYW pressed forward, intending to press this advantage as far as he could and---

BANG! BANG! BANG!

YYW stumbled back from three rough impacts against his chest, tripping and falling over the broken chair and watched as Jifpop stood back up, holding the pistol YYW had knocked out of his hands at the beginning of the fight.

YYW crawled behind a desk, desperately trying to suck in air as he looked down at his chest. YYW breathed a sigh of relief as his body armor held up against the bullet impacts, thankful that it didn"t all just end right then and there. His attention was brought back to the present as he began looking around for something that he could use against Jifpop. His eyes came across a desk lockbox under the desk he was lying next to. YYW blinked, not believing the good luck, before reaching under it to the pinpad and pinned in five numbers, watching a pistol fall out as it opened, as well as a name badge for the officer who sat there: Sergeant Airmax1227.

YYW grabbed his father"s pistol, aiming under the desk and waiting for Jifpop to walk in the line of fire. When YYW saw the legs of the commander, he pulled the trigger twice, sending bullets into Jifpop"s legs and making him fall on the ground in front of YYW. Jifpop looked at YYW, then at the gun YYW held, then back at YYW with a look of disbelief plastered over his face. YYW just shook his head and aimed the gun at Jifpop.

"You messed with the wrong family."

BANG!

YYW let out a deep breath, rolling onto his back and breathing heavily for a few minutes as the adrenaline from the fight began to leave his system and the pain and soreness from the fight began to set in. YYW picked himself up slowly, dusting himself off and exiting the offices, leaving Jifpop"s body with a nice, new hole in his head.

---

He had to keep moving. They were still following him. He had to keep running.

Those were the only thoughts that crossed Thett"s mind as he barged through the exit door and kept running, hearing the shouts of the guards who were still following him. It seemed that instead of the guards splitting up to chase the two teenagers, they just all followed one and Thett had drawn the short straw. What rotten luck.

Thett got knocked down, the impact of a guard tackling him from the side knocking him off of his feet and causing him to hit the ground hard. Thett gasped as the breath was knocked out of him, causing the teenager to gasp as he thrashed to try and free himself from the guards. He had to keep fighting, had to keep trying---

A pang of fiery pain erupted from his side as he cried out from the stab. Thett kept thrashing though, kept fighting, and finally got his arm free. He immediately threw an elbow behind him, catching the guard who had been pinning him in the nose and knocking the guard off of him. Thett took the chance he got to get back up, instantly back on the run as he kept a hand pressed up against the stab wound in his side. He would patch himself up on the way back once he shook these guards. He just had to get some breathing room first.

---

The guard rubbed his nose, wiping away some of the blood from the elbow the kid gave him. He was going to kill that kid for that. He got up to start chasing after him again, but an arm stuck out in front of him to stop him. "Don"t chase him any further. Let this one go." Came a voice from behind him. The guard turned around to see Lieutenant Colonel Lannan calmly walking toward the guard, watching the teenager run away with a smirk on his face. The officer reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small device and turning it on. A small red dot appeared on a map, and Lannan watched it move across the screen with great interest.

---

The group had all started trickling back into the hideout, box in hand. It had been a rough fight, and it wasn"t without losses, but it was a victory none-the-less. And a victory was worth celebrating. Bladerunner was happy to oblige, breaking into the food supplies and coming out with a case of beer for everyone to share and unwind.

YYW circulated around the room, his left arm still up against his chest (it still didn"t quite feel right after using that back of the chair), making sure that everyone was alright and not seriously hurt by anything. He had already checked on Thett, who said he was okay after being stabbed trying to escape. With everyone doing okay, then, it was time for him to relax and unwind as well.

YYW walked over to the case of beer, grabbing two bottles out of the case and began trying to hunt down his brother. After things got intense back in the complex, he felt like talking to his brother would be a good idea.

YYW left the floor lobby where everyone had set up, walking into one of the rooms to where his brother was sitting and talking to Bsh. The two looked up at YYW, Bsh smiling at the sight of YYW. YYW grinned a little bit, nodding to the both of them. "Yo, Mikal, can I talk to you for a bit?" YYW asked. Mikal nodded, looking over to Bsh who was already getting up. Bsh held his bottle in one hand, and grabbed one from YYW"s hand as he walked past. "I"m taking this with me so you have to come find me when you"re done." Bsh teased, giving the marine a coy smile before walking further down the hall, past the floor"s open-air balcony.

YYW sat down next to Mikal, now suddenly unsure of what to say, how to start. "What did you want to talk to me about?" Mikal asked, curiously, and that only made YYW feel even more out of place. He reached behind his back, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly, as he tried to find the words to say. "Well, I"m pretty bad at this sort of thing, but I just...uhh...just wanted to say that I was proud of you. When things got intense and I needed you to do something, you did your job and kept your head. You"re really growing up, and I"m proud of you." YYW admitted, pouring out his heart-felt emotions, from brother to brother, in a way he hadn"t ever done before.

Mikal looked at him, an amused smirk on his face, and was clearly trying really hard not to burst out laughing. "Wow, you really are bad at that."

YYW playfully punched his brother on the shoulder in response, both of them now laughing. "Yeah, I kind of am." YYW admitted, brushing it off and offering the bottle of beer to his brother. "You finally want that beer Mikal?" YYW joked, remembering back to before this all started. Mikal, grinned, remembering as well, and grabbed the bottle carefully, looking it over curiously. "Wow, my very first beer." Mikal said, his words dripping in sarcasm, which got the both of them laughing again. Mikal looked at YYW, noticing his brother was without a drink. "Hey, where"s yours?" Mikal asked. YYW grinned a little. "I think he has it." he said, looking down the hall and pointing to Bsh, who stood there, leaning against the wall and watching the two with great interest, two bottles of beer in his hand.

Mikal grinned and nudged his brother"s side playfully. "Then go get it."

YYW looked over at his brother, then back to Bsh, then back to his brother. YYW grinned. "Yeah, yeah." He said, suddenly having the nerves of a high school girl as he got up and walked over toward where Bsh was standing, crossing the open-air balcony---

BANG!

YYW fell to the ground, his body limp, and a new hole placed in his forehead.

Mikal stood up, frozen, as he watched his brother"s body just lay there. He was half expecting his brother to just get back up, brush it off as nothing, and keep going. His brother was the invincible older brother, nothing could stop him or keep him down. But why wasn"t his brother moving then? Mikal didn"t even hear Bsh"s scream of shock and pain, didn"t even notice Bsh collapse down to where YYW lay, sobbing in anguish and sorrow.

All Mikal could think about was getting everyone out of there, and keeping the box safe.

Mikal made sure not to move out in front of the balcony before making his way back to the rest of the group, who were fighting off soldiers who were trying to storm their position. Mikal worked his way through the different rooms, getting to bladerunner. "Bladerunner! I need time to get everyone out of here!" Mikal shouted to the Marine, grabbing his rifle and returning fire to some of the soldiers down the hallway. The marine looked at Mikal and nodded. "We"ll buy you as much as we can, let me know when you"re ready to bug out!" Bladerunner called, reaching up to his vest and grabbing a grenade before pulling the pin and tossing it toward where the soldiers were coming from.

The explosion didn"t even register to Mikal, who was already busy moving working his way back through the different rooms. He made his way toward where they had stashed the box, taking it out of its hiding spot before moving back toward Robert. "Robert! We gotta go! Take this and get to the escape car and get it going! We need to leave!" Mikal called, shoving the box into Robert"s arms. Once Robert was on his way, Mikal worked his way back to the scene of the crime, back to where his brother lay. Bsh still was sitting there, sobbing against YYW"s corpse. Mikal crossed over as low as he could to avoid attracting attention, kneeling down next to Bsh. "Bsh. Bsh, we gotta go. We gotta go." Mikal kept saying to Bsh, who was oblivious to the world. Mikal put his hands on Bsh"s arms, picking the man up and giving him a light shake. "Bsh! Come on, man, I need you with me! I know, I know it"s hard. We gotta go, though! We gotta go!" Mikal said, trying not to choke up at the fact that he was telling Bsh that they were going to just leave his brother behind. He hated this f*cking war.

Bsh just nodded, still crying, but started to move toward where the rest of the group was preparing to leave. Mikal knelt down, looking at his brother"s body and trying not to break down in the same way that Bsh had. The last bit of family he had in this world, his brother, just when things were starting to get better between the two of them, was now gone for good. Mikal was alone again.

Mikal shook his head furiously a few times, trying with all his might to clear his head. He had to stay focused, stay strong for the rest of the group. If he broke down, they really would have no one to look up to. He had to fill his brother"s shoes as best he could. He had to be strong now.

Mikal took one last, long look at his brother, before he closed his brother"s eyes. "Bye YYW." Was all he could bring himself to say before he had to force himself to leave, to get moving.

Mikal ran back to where Bladerunner was holding out, turning the hallway into a killzone of guards, and tapped him on the shoulder. "Bladerunner! We"re leaving!" Bladerunner nodded and reached for his last grenade, tossing it down the hall without the pin before turning to leave. It was time for them to get out of there.

---

It had been two hours of driving from the city for the six of them in a five-seater car. Finally, Bladerunner brought the car to a stop on a dirt road, killing the engine and getting out. "We gotta put some more gas in the car. Y"all might wanna get out now and stretch your legs a bit." Bladerunner announced, going through the supplies for what gas they had left as the rest of the group piled out of the car.

No one talked for a solid minute, no one sure of how to start a conversation that wouldn"t start a fight. Finally, Mikal couldn"t keep the question inside anymore. He wanted to know too badly. "How"d they find us? How could they find us?" No one answered his question. No one wanted to answer. "Maybe they followed us"" Robert started to think outloud, but Mikal shook his head. "No way, there"s no way they could track us. No way they could keep up with us on foot." Mikal said, immediately throwing the idea out. They knew the city better than they did, knew how to move around it quickly and efficiently. He refused to believe they had been followed.

Robert thought about it some more, an idea forming in his mind. His eyes widened in realization, a look of disbelief written on his face. He looked over at Thett, an empty, serious look on his face. "Thett, lift up your shirt." Robert said. Thett looked back at Robert, confused at the request. "You said you were stabbed. Let me see it." Robert explained, walking over to Thett and lifting up the side of his shirt without waiting any longer.

On Thett"s side was a circular puncture wound. Robert took in a deep, shocked breath, not wanting to believe what he was seeing. "Robert, what is it?" Mikal asked. Robert had to steady his breath before he could say anything. "It"s not a knife wound. It"s an injection mark. They injected him with an animal tracker. I remember learning about it in biology, they would inject these trackers in animals to keep up with them and study them, and that"s what it looked like after they were injected." Robert explained. Thett"s face drained of any color, realizing all of this was his fault. "No"" Thett said softly, not wanting to believe it.

Bsh looked at Thett, a look of disbelief and rage on his face. He got up slowly, his gun in his hand as he started walking toward Thett. Mikal moved toward him and stopped him from going any further, but that didn"t stop Bsh from trying. "You a**hole! You killed him! You killed YYW!" Bsh cried out, his voice filled with a mixture of anger and sadness as his struggle against Mikal"s grip turned into him leaning against Mikal for support, unable to stop the flow of tears.

Thett just stood there, a face blank of any kind of emotion or feeling, as he tried to process everything. He didn"t say anything, just stared off and contemplated how this could"ve happened, how any of this could"ve happened.

The silence stretched on for a few minutes, with only Bsh"s soft sobs making any noise. "So what are we gonna do?" Robert finally asked, knowing full well that this was something they had to do something about. He just wasn"t sure what. No one made any kind of suggestion, just silence. Thett finally looked up at Mikal, blinking a few times. "Hey Mikal, can you get me a bag of the supplies from the back? And some ammo as well?" Thett asked calmly. Mikal blinked a few times, not understanding the request, until he met eyes with Thett and realized what it was he was asking to do. "You sure man?" Mikal asked, and Thett just nodded. "Unless you have a better idea, I don"t see any other option."

It finally hit Robert what Thett was suggesting, and his shock-covered face turned to Thett. "What? No, you can"t just leave! What are you going to do? Where are you going to go? It"s suicide!" Robert protested, pleading with his best friend not to leave. Thett just shook his head, doing his best to remain calm. "Like you said, they"re tracking me. I can"t stay."

Robert wanted to protest, wanted to say something, anything, to convince his best friend from doing this. There had to be some other option! There had to be something they could do!

Nothing came to mind. It was a hard pill to swallow, but Robert had to accept the truth that there really wasn"t any other option. Robert just stood there, not wanting to believe in what was happening, as Mikal came back with the backpack full of supplies and handed it to Thett. Thett slung it over his back, nodding that he was ready. Mikal looked back toward the car, receiving a nod from bladerunner that the car was ready to go. "Come on, we gotta go." Mikal said to the group, walking back to the car, Bsh following. Robert stood there for a bit, not wanting to leave his best friend behind. "Go man, I"ll be alright." Thett said calmly. Robert blinked a few times, before nodding slowly and walking back to the car.

Robert watched as the car drove away, leaving his best friend standing in a cloud of dust.

=== Epilogue ===

It had been a few days since the group left Thett on the side of the road. Bladerunner had set up a pickup with other soldiers he knew, and they were to meet in a field miles outside the city to have the box picked up by chopper, flown back to a DDO-controlled area in the Politics forum.

Ore_ele walked the box over to the chopper, putting it in and climbing into the chopper. Bladerunner stood there, offering his hand to Mikal, who shook it. "You did a hell of a job back there Mikal. Anyone else calling the shots and no one would"ve walked out of that city. You"ve given the resistance the first victory it"s had in a long time." Bladerunner said. Mikal just nodded solemnly. "It was a victory that came at a high price, though." Mikal said. Bladerunner just nodded. A few moments of silence passed. "Look, we have room in the chopper for you and the rest of your group. You could leave with us. You"ve done more than enough, if you want to rest." Bladerunner offered.

The offer was a tempting offer, but Mikal couldn"t accept it. "I think I"ll stay. We"re not doing so bad for a bunch of kids." Mikal started.

"This is my fight. I"m going to keep fighting because I"m used to it. The rest of you, however, will have a much tougher choice." Mikal said, a few months later in front of a few dozen volunteers who were tired of living under edeb8 and wanted the return of their home. They were just a bunch of fresh faces, much like he was when his brother first told him and the rest of the original group that he was going to fight. And now it was Mikal"s turn.

"I"m not gonna try to sell this life to you; it"s too awful, too ugly for that. But when you"re standing in your own backyard, fighting for your home and your family and your future, it all hurts a little less, and makes a little more sense. To them, this is just some place they"re supposed to take over; it means nothing to them. But to us? This is our home."

Mikal looked among the crowd of faces, seeing a mix of nervousness and excitement. All of them, however, were ready to go to war. Mikal nodded, hopping down from the roof of the car he was using as a soapbox. "Then let"s get to work."

I'm not, though probably because I saw this coming since the first episode. I'm glad that some of the major problems -especially the familial tension- was reconciled before that happened, though.

It wasn't bad, though, and I've enjoyed the series.

AAAAA...

Yeah. I know.

Zaradi is gonna screw RM for killing you. I need to write a Ramblings episode.

I'd like to see a prologue where my death was avenged, too.

Very actiony. Much befitting of a climax. I approve. I have to agree with YYW that I'm not surprised that he died. But that didn't make the scene any less entertaining. Excellent story, Zaradi!

Well first off I 100% predicted esocial's reaction (then again who didn't T_T)

Second off, <3 you YYW, but you know it had to happen.

Third off, wow that took a lot longer to type up than I expected. Was thinking it'd come out to around 5k words. Waaaaay off. Try 9k Zaradi -.-

But I had fun typing this up. I hope you all enjoyed it as well.
