I was thinking of running some form of U.N. model debating tournament, where users take the roles of different nations. I have absolutely no idea how I would implement it, but I have been playing around with the idea.

Thoughts?

MUN, I do that IRL. [http://en.wikipedia.org...]

Sure. Nice. But It needs a Muti, not Duo, Debate system. 3 v 3 relative to 1 v 1.

Do it a little like soccer.
Have america fight it out with in the americans.
Have the canadians fight it out.
Have britain fight it out
Have the rest of europe fight it out.
Have asia(including australia) fight it out
Have south america fight it out

Than do it as a tournament. The best from each country fight to see who is the best.

No Africian Union : (

You need a debate style like the UN. That would be a: what-person-can-defend-each-country's-ideologies-best-Tournament.

I was thinking I could set up various resolutions, and users would assume a different nation varying in the resolution

E.G.

Iran ought not to have the capacity to build nuclear based weaponry (Iran vs. U.S. [Or any UN security council member really])

Gilbraltar ought to be given to Spain (Spain vs UK)

The user could assume any side they wanted.

It's not a bad concept, Panda, but if you're planning on doing it here, on DDO, I don't really see the difference from the types of debates that already take place somewhat within this framework.

As Zets said, it'd be much more interesting if it was a multi-debate, not simply one-on-one.

Countries do not have interests, countries cannot act.

I say we should do it. Let's do a congressional debate as well.

I'd like a congressional debate. Can I be Ron Paul?

He wouldn't consider himself such, no. But he is an anarchist.

He's not anarchist, either. He's a really cranky libertarian. He's still supportive of some form of government, just not one like exists currently. He's also considered a constitutionalist, and if there is one thing that isn't anarchistic, it's a constitution.

Yeah, I planned on it as a tournament. I might have to exclude you seeing as you would dominate it being the foreign policy dog you are.

No. I must be included. This is a tournament I'd actually participate in.

It'd be my pleasure, but just note, I won't be here for two weeks starting this Thursday. If you're planning on setting it up during then, I can't participate much beyond resolutions.

Far as I can tell Mr. Shrimp Subsidies and States' Rights (including apparently the right to tax on a local level) doesn't qualify for that either.

This sounds like a great Idea. I think we should have those participating lobby for a country to represent. So for example I might lobby to represent America or Cuba.

I then think that if two or more people wish to represent the same country that a debate tournament should be held for that country to deterime the representative. i would be more than willing to help set that up.
