Where are they?

Ever since the implementation of the forums, there have always been 0 debates waiting in the Challenge period every time I've checked. It seems as if this is becoming more of a social networking site than a site for debating. And sure, most of you will disagree with me (for the sake of being contrary); however, the numbers speak for themselves.

I love the forums, not gonna lie. In fact, I like the whole social networking thing.

But

You are right, and the numbers do not lie. I've noticed the decline of debates since version 3 came out.

Well if the number of debates are decreasing why don't we do something about it! I for one am going to post some debates in the challenge period today. The forums are great but let's get some more debates going.

What has made you grow tired of debate on here and how has the influx of "v3ers" made it worse? How can it improve?

I am curious also. I haven't really seen much by "v3ers" at all, either way. Could you be more specific, PoeJoe?

Personally I think its because you guys added the forumns. Ever since if someone has a small argument that normally would have become a debate, it gets posted on the forumns and argued over.

Additionally some people are just to lazy to start a debate topic.

Just give people some time to get sick of the forumns and you'll see more debates.

Or, people are sitting around waiting for someone else to start a debate because they can not win a debate they start themselves. And it might also be the low numbers of people becoming members and then staying. If my head was not so hard I would have left also. Most people do not like wasting there time with tactics and BS most debates here have resulted to. I did a little homework. I looked at the leader boards wins. One in particular, out of 63 wins 39 were against members with no experience. And the loses tell a much different story, all 20 loses were against debaters of his own "caliber". And in most of them the winner (almost always contender) would use tactics to win. A little further study showed over 80% of these new members have not been back after the debate. I am sure they did not have a very high opinion of this site and some of it's members, and in conversations with others they shared what happened to them. If I had know what this site is about I would not have come in the first place, well. Maybe I would, I love a challenge. But anyway. It may help to have a place where new members could learn about how this site debates, burden of proof, straw man and the like. Also schooling them how to make sure there debate is water tight and can not be twisted. Or the admin here could give a option for debaters, not allowing the "better" (and I use this term loosely) debaters for accepting there challenges. Or the "better" debaters could agree to not take there challenges. But I know they will not agree to this, there win ratios would suffer. Just a thought. No need for a bunch of rude comments. A simple conversation on this issue is all that is needed.

I made a hasty rationalization based off my own personal plight. It is my hope that most debaters continue debating.

As for me though, I'm tired of debates. They are usually accepted by (pardon my French) idiots, and are usually voted on by even more idiots. Vote bombing makes it worse. I've learned it's best to only send debates to people you trust (people on your friends list).

Sorry 'bout that.

What is up with the lack of voting in recent debates? I think it may have something to do with the frontpage, which I was told was put back to the old frontpage, but it hasn't. Debates, as they are finished, should be put at the top. Another finishes, it should be put on top of that, and so on. I've seen the same debates on the page for about a week now... Why?
It could be that people simply aren't voting anymore, which would be a shame. Anyone have any idea what is going on?

My theory: You now need a cell phone confirmation to vote. This disallows many vote bombers and many legitimate voters to vote.

Another finishes, it should be put on top of that, and so on. I've seen the same debates on the page for about a week now... Why?

Two reasons.

1) Debates with a forfeit are no longer put on the front page.
2) There are less debates overall.

These two factors combined make the front page rather slow.

It could be that people simply aren't voting anymore, which would be a shame.

Many would vote if they could.

Sorry for the double post, but I agree with John.

School is also a big factor as to why the activity on this site has lessened.

not sure if anyone stated this already but i know that part of me is discouraged bc it is very difficult to see which debates are fresh now. In 2.0 it was right there on the main page. Now it seems hard to find the debates that have just ended.

Precisely, zero. As funny as I thought brian_eggleston's electirc bra was, I want to see something different without having to search for it. I just finished a debate where I indeed technically forfeited a round, but my opponent allowed me to post in the comments section, as I had a strange set of circumstances come upon me and it was posted within an hour of the time limit. Just because a debate has a round forfeited should not disallow it from being posted. Just my thoughts on both these things.
