Same ol' speech.

If you know silntwaves, tell him to e-mail WebCorp politely, explaining the situation and requesting that he have his account back. If he did something legitimately bad (e.g. multiacounting or vote bombing), then tell him to apologize and to say he'll never do it again and to never do it again. If this banning is an accident, tell him to ask for the reason and to continue from there.

I fail to see how freedom of speech is a problem...however coming from a socialist, its understandable.

The intended meaning was, Phil is only very rarely on here, which leads him to not understand the community, to mistakenly ban many, and to ignore our requests.

When have I been against freedom of speech? At the very most, you could say I'm against economic freedom, but freedom of speech? What?!

Also, privately owned website = property.

Not that I agree with many of Phil's actions. But it's not like this a freedom of speech issue.

Socialists are generally for freedom of speech. The Nationalists, the Authoritarians, and the Fascists (like Soviet Russia and Germany) are generally against it.

PoeJoe? It's a libertarian belief that people have the right to govern their property.

Most forums--certainly all respectable ones, anyway--have moderators. I don't see how this would be a problem.

and the ToS being enforced strictly

When have I ever said this? I've said that the pragmatic approach to this website is to simply follow the ToS, because, though faulty, it is a greater evil to get banned than it is to simply follow it. Meanwhile, we should try to get WebCorp to reform its ways...but I've never said that the ToS should be strictly enforced.

Moderators always go mad with power.

Uhhh...show me the major websites with forums and moderators to go with those forums that have moderators who go mad with power. Or at the very least, show me the sites with moderators who go made with power and who aren't quickly removed from power.

When have I ever said this?

You've implied it.

When? Please show me.

Incorrect. Any website accessible to someone with an internet connection = Public property.

"International, regional and national standards also recognize that freedom of speech, as the freedom of expression, includes any medium, be it orally, in written, in print, through the Internet or through art forms. This means that the protection of freedom of speech as a right includes not only the content, but also the means of expression." [1]

"Jo Glanville, editor of the Index on Censorship, states that "the Internet has been a revolution for censorship as much as for free speech".[2] International, national and regional standards recognise that freedom of speech, as one form of freedom of expression, applies to any medium, including the Internet.[1] The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Declaration of Principles adopted in 2003 makes specific reference to the importance of the right to freedom of expression for the "Information Society" in stating:

"We reaffirm, as an essential foundation of the Information Society, and as outlined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, that everyone has the right to freedom of opinion and expression; that this right includes freedom to hold opinions without interference and to seek, receive and impart information and ideas through any media and regardless of frontiers. Communication is a fundamental social process, a basic human need and the foundation of all social organisation. It is central to the Information Society. Everyone, everywhere should have the opportunity to participate and no one should be excluded from the benefits of the Information Society offers."[3]"

He's not. Our moderator has a mental deficiency which causes him to ban people in order to feel successful.

He's not. Our moderator has a mental deficiency which causes him to ban people in order to feel successful.

Of course, another interpretation is that, while the moderator may be lazy and uncaring, He is mentally stable.

WebCorp doesn't spend much time on here. Thus, scanning programs (e.g. IP scans to find multiaccounters) and automated ban systems (e.g. lists of people who have been reported a lot) essentially run this site. It isn't personal. Like I said, I'd e-mail WebCorp about the matter.

WebCorp's entry on the wiki mentions that every other website Phil owns is low-maintenance and automated, where as this one is not. Based on his other websites he'll never be engaged enough to actually moderate fairly.

Take for example the comment that caused Vi_Veri to be banned, it was FAR from the worst thing that's on this site right now and was in actuality very truthful. But by banning a member people like for 'an obscene comment' he makes it seem as if he has control over the site.

Heh. I originally wrote that, hun: http://debatefans.com...

Where do we disagree?

Vi's comment was reported. Then, the comment went on a special administrator panel that Phil uses to moderate reported stuff. So, yeah, I agree. This site should be high maintenance if he wants it to succeed. Unfortunately, he doesn't spend much time.
