This is just an idea I think I should put out there. I would like to present to you the DDO Essay Writing Tourney. Let me explain a bit about my idea.

I suggest this. If we get enough members, we shall put two members against each other in a debate. These members will choose from a non-fiction category, and I will present them with a topic. The two members will not engage each other rather they will write individual essays regarding the topic. The topic will be rather general, and they can take a Pro, or Con position (both can be Pro, both Con if they so choose) and write a short thesis essay on the topic. Voters will choose the essay which they felt was presented better, argued the thought better, and presented more clarity.

The competitors can chose a category, and will be provided with three essay topics, and must mutually agree on one of them. If they cannot agree I will decide for them.

Categories with Example Topics (only samples):

1. Art & Music
-The Idea of Impressionist Art
-Vincent Van Gough and The Birth of Expressionism
-The Sculpture of David

2. Economics
-The Gold Standard: Good or Bad?
-Fiscal Policy and Unemployment
-How Free Should The Free Market Be?

3. Funny
-The Aesthetics of Poop
-Benefit of Farting
-Mr. Bean

4. Health
-A Vegan Diet
-Necessity of Vaccines
-The Ebola Outbreak

5. History
-Hitler and Anti-Antisemitism
-Israel and Palestine
-The Failure of the League of Nations

6. Philosophy
-The Law of Non-Contradiction
-On A Priori Knowledge
-Is Metaphysics Possible

7. Ethics
-The Categorical Imperative
-Moral Nihilism
-Ethics, Emotion, and Reason

8. Religion
-On Organized Religion
-Theology and Science
-Can God Be Known?

9. Science
-The One Electron Hypothesis
-Parthenogenesis
-The Big Bang Theory

10. Society & Law
-Presumed Consent for Organ Procurement
-Gender Roles, and The Birth of Stereotypes
-The Collective Unconscious

Please note that these are the categories from which one must be chosen, the topics of each round will be presented later on.

There are of course some rules which will be followed:
1. Each debate will be of two rounds, with the first round being for rules, explanation, and acceptance. The second round will have the individual essays.
2. Each essay is stand alone and the competitors are not allowed to engage one another or the voters.
3. A minimum of 7, 000 chars, with a maximum of 10, 000 characters may be used (citations included).
4. Should have proper essay style.
5. There should be a Select Winner option on the debates.

With that I hope people sign up for this.

As in with paragraphs, and basically just a nice and neat presentation. Not anything too specific. Please do join, and get people to join. :3

Okay, I'll join. Are you matching people up by category of Essay or could an economics essay end up facing off against a health essay?

You will get paired with a random person. Then you and they will decide a category, once you have decided a category I will give you both three choices. You both need to chose one.

What happens if the sides can't agree? Will you moderate by choosing a topic at random for them?

I may remove the judge decision and keep it open voting. I really need to ask what people want for that.

On further thinking I have decided to remove the Judges, and I will keep it Open Voting. If someone wants Judges then I will assign them/they may decide and inform me for their particular case.

I'm concerned that if you take this beyond category it could be too limiting and kill my creativity, so hopefully you keep things very broad.
