You'd have to wait a while for me to accept, if you wanted to debate me on that. I just wanted to talk trash. I'm 2 weeks away from anymore good debates.

I guess I'm more of a Rothbardian libertarian than a Randroid.

I wish people realized that there's more to libertarianism than Randroids and Leftist Libertarians. Some of us, for instance, believe in voluntary societies that have both a strong sense of community (with communal and nationalistic values) and private property

It's not really accurate to label all libertarians individualists. Ayn Rand is, sure. But a lot of libertarians, like J.Kenyon, believed in collectivism to an extent, they just believed you should be free to choose whom you want to bind your fate to, rather than being forced to bind it to a state, most of whose actions you don't approve.

Plenty of people on the economic centre and centre-left are also individualists. Being a collectivist is taboo at the moment, at least where I am. Most people I've spoken to about this seem to think that collectivism = totalitarianism, theoretically or in practice.

Anyway, this should be interesting. Are you actually a collectivist or are you playing devil's advocate?

All the libertarians have realised that no man is an island. The individual is only free when he lives in a free society, which 'individualism' has never been interested in establishing.

"No man is an island entire of itself; every man
is a piece of the continent, a part of the main;
if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe
is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as
well as any manner of thy friends or of thine
own were; any man's death diminishes me,
because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know for whom
the bell tolls; it tolls for thee."

Yeah, and most of the time these so-called collectivist states which have trespassed rights other than the "right," to private property have done so for the sake of keeping state power intact - this is certainly what happened in the USSR. I think individualism causes more infringement on freedom, simply because prizing the rights of the "individual," (which I'd argue doesn't exist, but that's a different question) over those of the group or society as a whole or, in the case of a DOTP, a certain class, in a society means that the society ends up with a few people with a lot of freedom who can then infringe on the freedoms of others.

Anyway, this should be interesting. Are you actually a collectivist or are you playing devil's advocate?

I'm not sure if I'm actually a collectivist, but I do know that I believe individualism and all related egoist philosophies suck.

Uh-huh. The ones that lead to laissez-faire capitalism, i.e. workers being stripped of their rights, even more so. Egoist and individualist anarchism also kind of irritates me, since I see anarchism as fundamentally collectivist.
