I hide in a corner and tremble so violently that an earthquake ensues, causing a chasm to open up in the ground and swallow up whatever was scaring me.

For as long as I can remember, when I'm alone at night before going to bed sometimes I have panic attacks thinking about death.

This overwhelming sensation of fear will just come over me and that's a big reason why I sought religion and tried to force myself to accept supernatural beliefs about the afterlife.

What I do when I have this panic attacks is cut on all the lights in the house and do whatever I can to come into contact with another human being to talk to. I try everything in my power to distract myself as much as possible but usually just end up sitting alone somewhere until I pass out from exhaustion.

What do you do when you're scared?

Oh ... That sounds traumatizing 0.0
I'm sorry...

I sit in a room with the door locked, light on, headphones to my ears or just sing. Or meditate on text of scripture or find something to keep me busy but usually I hide.

It's a bit cliched, but it carries with it a kernel of truth. When you're scared, find a happy place inside you, and the fear diminishes.

Sometimes, that's really hard to do. I know because I shutdown when I'm scared, and I internalize things. That's problematic for a variety of reasons--but when I am able to find a reason to be happy, my funk eventually fades.

Because it makes you happy. It seems like happiness is the great elixir to many (if not most) of our woes.

SEE? I was right. Everyday in Texas IS a shootout. You DO have to dodge bullets on your daily commute to school (why do you walk, you turd?).

When I was a kid, and it was late at night and I'd go to the kitchen for a snack or something, I remember always sprinting back to my room thinking something or someone was chasing me from behind. So when I was scared I'd run faster than lightning. Turning the lights on real quick was also a must.

Nowadays, it's more like existential meltdowns after realizing the futility of it all. In regards to non-metaphysical fears I try to force myself to overcome them. For instance, a few months ago I was walking down this pitch black street that kinda makes a circle around some woods. I decided to walk down it into the woods by myself, then sat in the woods alone for about a half hour kinda hoping a wild animal would come along so I could fight it. It was a way to overcome my fear of being in the woods alone at night. Now, I don't really have any issues hiking in the woods alone at night which is pretty liberating.

I guess the moral of the story is to face your fears when scared. Otherwise you'll always remain victim of that fear.

I'm not a Texan and I can do all that.

When I'm scared I generally try to fight whatevers scaring me. When it comes to fight or flight I generally fight.

I used to do that too actually... Sometimes I get the urge to do that still, but I just face the fear (as you put it).
