I will be making personal banners for anyone in the 95th percentile or above who wants one. You can paste it onto your profile picture using paint or something.
Example: (TheLwerd: Platinum Rank: 100%) In the color of platinum.

100th=Platinum
99th=Gold
97th=Silver
95th=Bronze

If anyone wants one.. please private message me. DO NOT REPLY TO THIS FORUM. Just message me.

If you don't want one, that's fine. If there is a lack of demand, I might lower the required percentile.

Thanks!

There's 184 people in the top 95th percentile. Good luck making the banners.

I appreciate the offer, but I think that it would be best if we stayed away from more of these types of things. There really isn't a need for more elitism, since these banners would basically go to almost everyone who actively participates in the community. Patting ourselves on the back all the time isn't really necessary...

I would recommend doing 100th, 99.9, 99 and 98 or 97 instead, since it isn't that hard to get up that high, I mean it only takes like 10 wins to get to 95%.

Not necessarily

Maybe banners for the Top 10 would be better.

Then this gives more motivation for vote bombing.
It is odd when one's capacity for compassion is measured not in what he is willing to do by his own time, effort, and property, but what he will force others to do with their own property instead.

It also gives more motivation to those against vote bombing to act. Since when the number of wins is meaningless, there is little motivation for us to counter or speak out against it.

Your banner would be pretty tricky to make since you have a long name.

Do another few debates and you'll make it.

A lot of names can be shortened. As INH (InsertNameHere). Though I'd imagine asking for premission first.

Elitism, vote bombing, you name it--this isn't leading anywhere productive.

It would basically be the same 30 or so people showing their banners off to the same 30 or so people.

recognizing achivement is not elitism, and the vote-bombing has already been argued and no counter arguement has been offered. While, of course, some people will take it in an elitest manner, I think that most will be above that.

i've had 16 debates. more than half have ended in forfeits. thats not much of an achievement :P

i am at like 96.5% or thereabouts.

it seems unncessary to celebrate an achievement that takes very little effort to achieve. its really just a matter of persistence....

^Agreed. Belle's debate score isn't of much consequence. She's shown how intelligent she is several times over by interacting with people on the forum :)

Our community is pretty small, so these little celebrations of achievement are kind of...awkward.

If there is some kind of reward or honor (as this banner would be) that increases the risk of people "cutting corners" to obtain that reward, IE vote bombing, however it also increases the resistance against said cheating.

For example, right now, many people don't care about vote bombing because people's records don't really matter (I also see it that way, while I don't approve vote bombing, I'm not gonna lose sleep over it), and so won't bother taking time to try to rectify other people's vote bombing. But now, with something on the line, I'd be more willing to actually go vote and even counter vote bombing and I'm sure many others would be too.

Well, there are several problems with that. Among these problems, these two are most obvious...

1) Vote bombers don't care if people think highly of them.

2) People would not be motivated by a silly badge.

It's not about what people think, it is about what people do.

If some people are motivated to vote bomb, then some people will be motivated to act against it.

To argue aginst that is to apply a double standard. You can argue that the vote bombers may be motivated more then the anti-vote bombers, but you can't argue that there will be no motivation for one and motivation for the other.
