so by now most people know that DDO is up for sale. Does anyone know how that is progessing? All I could determine is that several offers have been made but thats it. I have no idea when it will be final that the site is sold or how much the offers are.

I have already bought the site. You are being charged $0.03 per minute and your bill will be in the mail tomorrow.

I read on another forum that they were offering members $10,000 each to leave.

If we all left and pooled the cash I'm sure we could afford to buy it!

Way more than any of us could afford, even if we put money in together. Perhaps one of you should ask about a price if the community put money together to buy it.

PoeJoe looked into this matter and even talked to Phil about it. Where are you PoeJoe+1?

Yeah, probably, depends on the buyers.

Overall, I would consider buying some stake in the company if I had some form of regular income.

I doubt there would be much return on the investment. I don't see any internet ads, there is no fee for membership (shouldn't say that too loudly), so i am unsure of how the site even sustains itself.

Not really "talked" about.

But from what I can tell, WebCorp doesn't intend to sell the site any time soon. He just uses etracker to get a sense of how attractive the site is to buyers.

I suspect WC took the ads off to boost membership. In other words, they have long term goals. They want this site to grow big. Besides, WC has invested thousands of man hours into this website. To sell out now would not be a wise choice. Like I said, I suspect WC wants to grow the site.

This is not the same, just similar...but remember the eBay scheme a year and a half ago? To quote Phil on the matter, "I don't expect to actually sell the site on eBay (high reserve price). We're doing it for marketing reasons. In the last 4 days, more than 1,000 people have come to Debate.org as a result. There are 6 more days remaining."

So, just because WC says it's selling a site, doesn't mean WC is actually selling a site. You've got to remember that WC is really smart.

Oh, and there was this.

There were too many complaints and I wasn't happy with the quality of the ads from the network. The revenue was actually decent, but nothing that significantly affected WebCorp's bottom-line. If the site keeps growing at its current rate, then in a few years some Google ads will produce some very nice revenue, but not until DDO has 250,000+ members.

Thank you,
Philip Ferreira

Clear indication that WebCorp has long-term plans.

Hah. I'd buy DDO for $2,000.

Anyway, if Phil's plans are to grow DDO to 250,000 members then he's got a LONG way to go... a very long way. In over 2 years, the site has just 18,000 members so it's growing at a rate of about 9k members per year. Do the math and you'll see that it should take, like, 25 years to reach the numbers that Phil wants. Without aggressive advertising, I'd say that his plans at this point seem little more than wishful thinking to me. But hey - I guess he knows what he's doing. Still, there is no way that DDO has anywhere near 18,000 regular site users. I'd say that there are about 100 regular site users or up to 1,000 AT BEST!!! The other 17k accounts are fake v-bombing account, double accounts, or people who came here once to plagiarize someone's argument for their real life debate competition. I don't see how this site is worth it. The only way it'll ever become profitable is if there are some major overhauls and like I said more aggressive advertising to appeal to wider demographics (i.e. an older crowd).

You're assuming linear growth. WebCorp knows what it's doing...I mean, I hope so at least.

I think it's good for me as it is now.

Why do you care if it expands???
