This election the guide I compiled has been getting a lot of attention. I've lost count of the number of people who like or love it, and on one hand can count the people who dislike or hate it. https://docs.google.com...

It has previously only suffered rare vandalism, which I have had an easy time correcting. However I suspect such will soon exponentially increase. Even while the link is currently set to allow only comments, this is what one user made it look like for a few hours http://www.debate.org...

To prevent future occurrence of this, next week I am changing the default access to View Only. Any suggested changes before then (or alternate protection ideas), are most appreciated. Right now comments may even be added to note disagreement with any of the content.

Community suggested changes will still be possible, just not quite as easy. Either via a PM with the suggestion, or a PM with an email address to be added to a (hopefully large) contributor list. I am also strongly considering giving direct edit access to key community members, since whenever DDO gets a major update, the guide will need to be updated regardless of my activity level.

Discussion of it is also very welcome in this thread.

it's solid overall. We could add some stuff about the polls and opinion. I'm kind of lazy so I'll let you real writers do that stuff. If we have time we could also possibly gloss over mafia (since it's such a big part of what you do in the forums, other than discussing and exchanging ideas)

Those might be worthy of their own guides, things like which internet browsers work and don't work for them.

I don't know either. There are some people (huge geek that I am, I label them Varelse) with whom no meaningful communication is possible.

Thanks for all the suggestions the last couple days. Most of them have been incorporated.

As interesting as it would be, this guide shall probably never incorporate information on DDO elections. As much as it could fit into a segmented guide, it feels too far removed from debating (no offense, but elections seem mostly a popularity contest... unlike debates).

However, if anyone has a good link to share containing information on the DDO elections, that could be a good thing to link. A bit like how "How To Troll" is merely a link to an article.

Out of curiosity, have many people had difficulty verifying their accounts to unlock voting privileges? I remember it being so easy, that I did not include information on it, yet if it's a stumbling block for even 1 in 10 people it certainly has a place in the guide.

Thanks to the few people who suggested minor refinements, they have almost all been implemented.

Election is over, it's officially linked (actually was going to happen no matter who won), no signs of vandalism yet... I think I will tentatively leave the edit rights as is for the time being.

As a small reminder, the URLs for each link from the table of contents may be copied, to use as references. My personal favorite is:
https://docs.google.com...

I'm thinking about making another table like the one in that link, highlighting different ways to weight arguments. While I don't want to say from weak to strong, it pretty much would be.

The way I see it, it'd be laid out about like...
1. Fluff votes (anything that awards points without detailing why). Highly invalid.
2. "Had arguments." With the exception of forfeited debates, still invalid.
3. Affirmed/negated resolution "and here's why..." Valid.
4. Weighted cased with strengths and weaknesses of each. Valid and useful (feedback on your case is always great to receive).
5. Accurate formal argument list... Beyond valid, and insightful.

(yeah probably missing some techniques, it's late, and I am only toying with the idea right now)
