Against the construct of "toxic members"

The introduction of the"toxic members"construct to DDO, is superfluous to the TOC system already. It's simply just a rewording of the feminist construct of "toxic masculinity". In other words it's an attempt by certain members to sneak in a political agenda, which has hidden misandrous connotations, and the potential for abuse in silencing legitimate criticism by labeling people.-Just like the word "troll" is often used simply to stigmatize people one doesn't like, or one disagrees with, and/or for the sake of discouraging, suppressing, and mitigating what ideas can or cannot be expressed.

There is a current trend in Western society towards Feminist-Marxist totalitarianism, as an attempt to squash the uprising of dissenters, let this debate website remain a free-thinking community, where people are not afraid to express their opinions, for fear of being labeled and dismissed. For even if someone has the wrong idea even let them be refuted legitimately. That's the purpose of debate.

Above and beyond the notion of "troll", the notion of "toxic members", has no benefits, but does have the potential for abuse, by self-proclaimed, self-entitled, self-righteousness majorities who believed themselves to be acting in all our best interest, regardless of what other people think.

The arguments for the notion, such as "people who post porn", or people who merely harass others, can already be handled without enforcing an overall political ideology, in a place where political ideologies are to be challenged and criticized.

If you value freedom and free thought, Free speech and Freedom of expression. Vote against ideologues, who wish to take this away.

We free spirits!

I agree, especially in a website like DDO where the very purpose is public discourse and the sharing of ideas. In order for intellectual pursuit to have any value whatsoever, it becomes essential that we allow the discussion of opinions and points of view that might upset us individually. If someone hates black people (not based on their individual merits but actually on the color of their skin), it means that I should allow a discussion to take place where we can demonstrate the merits of our individual arguments and I should simply state my disagreements with racism rather than my personal dislike of the person who might be racist. When we start ostracizing people on a website like this (even through labels like "toxic member"), we are also creating a roadblock to intellectual progress by attempting to stifle free public discourse and the sharing of ideas (no matter how unpopular). You should judge a person's argument by the actual argument itself rather than labels and stereotypes. The very idea of a "toxic member" creates an assumption that the person and their arguments can be dismissed without consideration or even silenced and also leads to the stifling or even banning of people and arguments, not because they have abused policy or other members, but simply because you don't personally like their opinions.

Wow, I think this may be the first taken I have very taken what you have said seriously, and liked it.

No offense, but you have an odd writing style and I usually just tend to skip over it.

Agreed, especially with the bolded part.

There are several currently popular ideas that stifle free discussion and kill independent thought. A few of the main ones:
1. Anything unpleasant is morally wrong.
2. If the subject upsets me, it cannot even be mentioned.
3. I have the right to remain unoffended at the expense of your freedom of speech, belief, and action.
4. You must take all possible care not to offend anyone in any way. If you do not, you clearly hate them.
5. Expressing an idea that is contrary to the currently popular zeitgeist is intolerant and morally wrong. Daring to act on such an idea is outrageous and morally wrong.

This website thrives on disagreement; and while personal attacks aren't productive, you can't forbid people and ideas from clashing. Labeling members "toxic" because they are unpleasant achieves nothing positive.

My reply was missing this part:

Political correctness has no place on a debate website. The TOS does not insist members refrain form being unpleasant or "toxic"; as long as you avoid violating the TOS I don't see how this additional label helps anything. Don't hold people to a standard they didn't sign up for.

I think that Mikal with the work of people assisting his administration has pretty narrowly defined the word toxic so it really isn't as subjective as it's being made out to be.

I don't see it as a tool for political motives to get rid of undesirables but a tool to prevent any new RMs, or Stalins from coming aboard and making the site completely intolerable to even come on.

The Fool: Which part you disagree with?

I think that Mikal with the work of people assisting his administration has pretty narrowly defined the word toxic so it really isn't as subjective as it's being made out to be.

The Fool: Which only makes it subjective to that group. For it might turn out that people may value, and have a better experience of DDO because of the fact that one may be able to express opinions, which they would not be able to express anywhere else. Evolution of ideas depends on the depolarization of beliefs and ideas.

I don't see it as a tool for political motives to get rid of undesirables but a tool to prevent any new RMs, or Stalins from coming aboard and making the site completely intolerable to even come on.

The Fool: I didn't say anything about Stalin. It need not be a dictator. China is generally totalitarian, in the way censors Internet access, because it believes it's for the greater good of the state. Groups no more than 25 people are allowed to form on religious holidays, to prevent any kind of coalescing of ideologies which do not agree with the reigning ideology. These are typical tactics that hegemonic ideologies incorporate to squash dissent.

I personally am just saying, that it's consistent with the general trend of "thought policing", that has been going on.

E.g.

The treatment of opposing ideas to feminist ideology as hate speech. Teaching feminism, in high school now rather than University, while mitigating in denying opposing ideas in Academic circles. The banning of pornography in England, and general banning of video games which don't fit feminist ideals. The banning of words. When was a last time there was this much BANNING and censorship, in such a short period of time.

The propaganda campaigns and excessive use of shaming tactics and stigmatizing terminology.

The defining masculinity, in a way that only takes account the faults, while ignoring all the positive things that men do.

The defining of feminism in a way so that you're either a feminist or your morally inferior, despite the excessive hidden ideological baggage which people are not even aware that they are accepting.

A push for a "listen and believe" approach to legalities and the corrosion of due process, while at the same time creating policies, such as "yes means yes", which make it impossible for one to prove one's innocence, unless consent has Literally been recorded.

The happenstance of the idea of "toxic members", is awfully similar in approach, and application of feminist construct "toxic masculinity" which just happens to be trending...So there is good Inductive-based evidence, to suggest that this notion is a part of the same trend.

Important Part
The only thing that I am asking people here, is to simply ensure that DDO is a place where people can give their opinions and defend their point of view, without the fear that they will be labeled, dismissed and/or banned simply because they are unpopular or offensive to a majority..

This isn't really about beliefs, no matter how controversial. This is about people who are just all around jerks irregardless of their personal beliefs.

The Fool: I am sure many Athenians thought Socrates was a jerk as well.
"The bud disappears when the blossom breaks through, and we might say that the former is refuted by the latter; in the same way when the fruit comes, the blossom may be explained to be a false form of the plant's existence, for the fruit appears as its true nature in place of the blossom. These stages are not merely differentiated; they supplant one another as being incompatible with one another." G. W. F. HEGEL

Wow, I think this may be the first taken I have very taken what you have said seriously, and liked it.

No offense, but you have an odd writing style and I usually just tend to skip over it.

Usually I skip over it also, I'm not a fan of the writing style. I think this is prevented better, though I disagree with it.

The Fool: Which part you disagree with?

I think I can speak for everyone when I say that you write in this horrendous dialogue format that is quite hard to follow and honestly makes you look pretty dumb

Debateability: I can't read

The Fool: Maybe you should learn <8)

The Fool: You should learn how to spell her name before you make fun of her illiteracy...

The Fool: Stop white knighting

The Fool: I'm not white. I'm yellow.
