This is a feature I've wanted implemented for awhile.

A "thumbs up / down" button by each post for whoever commented. This could have many variants ( +1 / -1) (up arrow / down arrow) (smiley face / sad face).

Another variant of this feature would be to only allow an up vote. I think this would be better since this is a debate forum and sides will always agree/disagree with the content written in posts. So a "like" system similar to the feature facebook uses without having any dislike feature.

Basically it's a way to show appreciation for users who have thoughtful/valuable input. It's also a fun way to let someone know that what they said was funny if they were trying to be. People usually reply with a "+1" in that case anyway but it's much easier/practical to have the +1 as part of the original post.

It would also be helpful to have a list of users who "liked" the comment (by comment I mean post within a topic). This way, during a debate in the forums, the opposition can have a better idea of who is liking which comments based on ideological bias.

I don't think they will devote the budget for it, but it sounds like a cool idea.

On a related note, I wish debate likes and dislikes were counted separately (x likes, and x dislikes).

And again, seeing who likes and dislikes something could be neat. I wonder exactly how many people are lame enough to "like" their own debate?

I'd be in favor of this.

I've been wanting for a lot of forums for a lot of time. It should be like the Opinions section's thumbs up and downs.

I've never understood the point of only having up vote buttons. Sounds like a ploy to protect people who are overly sensitive to criticism.

I support this.
