The guide I've compiled has finally had the update that was due last month. Interestingly enough I decided against increasing the protections on it, as vandalism remains rare. I'm open to any ideas for sections which should be expanded or even added. Suggestions can PMed to me for discussion, or written directly into it (thanks to everyone who has corrected minor grammar and word choice issues, in addition to the occasional larger suggestion).

The details of the update can be found here: https://docs.google.com...

IMO the single most important part remains a single page at: https://docs.google.com...
Unofficial DDO Guide: http://goo.gl...
(It's probably the best help resource here, other than talking to people...)

And please disable Smart-Quotes: https://goo.gl...

Ok figured out the next update, a section on MS word, to include such setup bits as ensuring "smartquotes" are disabled.

Also I just fixed the smartquotes in the guide, which will make copy/pasting from it into DDO higher quality.

Actually, a little inspired right now to add a versus section to the special debate types. I've repeatedly seen the fallacy of self-refuting idea's in them, in addition to (as usual) people not properly defining their terms before the start.

Any other common mistakes people have seen on this type of debate, or general suggestions anyone has for improving them?

Example of self refuting idea (if there's a more precise fallacy for this, please let me know): 'South Korea would win, because in the year 2025 rising sea levels will sink Island Nations like North Korea.' The self refuting idea comes into play, since once it's applied to one, it logically has to apply to the other.

Of course on the same debate, which year the battle is to happen would also be key. If one person is talking about the 1950 's to show the strength of their alliance with China, and the other is talking about modern day (or future), the debate will have a hard time making much sense. ... Same with superhero battles, Spider-Man doesn't have both the mind of Doctor Octopus, and the black alien suit; as his selected time period for the battle would have to be one or the other (with the default being neither).

Of course I've seen Star Trek debates repeatedly have mention of weapons that do not exist in Star Trek (yes in some alternate timeline they once existed... These debates tend to not be centered on those alternate timelines), which my best guess would be an Appeal To Novelty fallacy. http://rationalwiki.org...
