INTRO AND INFO

I am happy and honored to be host the first Regular Tournament under the new roster system initiated by Ore and company. I am looking forward to it.

Please note that this is a Regular Tournament, and as such it is not geared towards Beginners. If you are a new or inexperienced debater, I would suggest waiting or signing up for a Beginner's competition. It is also important to note that this tournament has a theme: Ethics and Philosophy.

Ethics is, in broad terms, the study of what is write and wrong, and the attempt to create rules by which to live morally. Philosophy, on the other hand, is a far broader concept, and can include the philosophy of language, ontology, epistemology, metaphysics, theology, and so forth.

I will run the tournament when I have 8 contestants (I would prefer to have no more than 8). I will also take on board 2 back-ups in case of any issues getting the tournament underway; back-ups will only be eligible to replace in for the first round of the tournament, and will only replace in if one debater concedes the debate outright, or forfeits a majority of his or her rounds in the debate.

I am not going to assign judges for the tournament, because, in my experience, having a set pool of judges reduces the likelihood that debates get voted on at all. However, to maintain voting integrity during the tournament, I ask that (a) debaters not solicit votes via PM unless they've agreed on who they want to ask for votes, and (b) debaters set a minimum ELO of 2,500 to vote on their debates. These are requests, not mandates. Debaters are free to work out voting arrangements amongst themselves.

Also, to make sure the tournament moves along in a timely fashion, competitors will have 4 days in-between rounds to begin select topics and begin debates. After 4 days, I will randomly assign competitors a topic from the list to follow. Feel free to choose a topic from the list even if I haven't assigned it; also, once a topic has been used, I will remove it from the list to prevent repeats.

I hope this will be a fun and engaging tournament for everyone! I hope to have everything underway by Feb. 1st or 2nd. Please sign up only if you have sufficient time, energy, and interest to devote to this venture. Thanks, and good luck :)

Lol...well, if you wind up competing you can always get your opponent to agree to debate that one.

I hated that resolution, btw. I ran absolute pacifism on the neg and was undefeated...O couldn't believe it.
