For the record, I think it's really unfair that this guy is unbanned but neutral remains banned.

How is it unfair? He broke more rules, and gets a longer ban for it. Multiaccounting to ignore bans is a pretty big issue.

He was perm banned because he made an account to defend himself against what he viewed as false accusations. Again, my reaction is big deal. The fact that Max bans him permenantly for that when there are members who LITERALLY RAN OTHERS OFF THE SITE is just weird and annoying

In fact, the only thing that would be unfair is if he broke more rules but had the same punishment. That wouldn't be fair at all.

I think it would be a big deal if he created a multi and tried to conceal it to actually avoid the ban for a long period of time, if I remember correctly he created it under practically the same name, he didn't pretend to be anyone besides himself, and he tried to directly defend himself from a thread where people were talking about him. It was less avoiding a ban and more getting a last word in, or so it seemed to me. That doesn't seem perma-ban worthy considering his original ban wasn't all that long.

It's implicit to a certain degree that evading a ban warrants a longer sentence, because if Max were to allow people to simply make a new account, the purpose of actually suspending an account becomes null. At least in my case--and I'm not sure if this was the case for neutral--I was told that making a new account would result in a permanent ban, so I'm inclined to think that Max was clear about this ahead of time.

I'm not even taking a side on the bulproof-neutral feud, because (1) I don't know what happened and (2) I think the religion forum is a god-awful bloody mess, anyway, and we'd be better off without it. But, so far as we know, bulproof didn't create a multiaccount, so by nature, his temp ban would expire, even if his sins (pun intended) were far worse than neutral's.

If it was made clear to neutral that making a new account was a straight perma ban than it was totally fair, but in this case (and in most cases) theres a lot of ambiguity in enforcing rules. Which is probably okay because this is just a website so we really shouldn't care too much about the bureaucracy.

Where in the rules does it say that?

So again...the rules are whatever Airmax says they are

Well, yeah. It's not as these he's creating these rules ex post facto. It was fairly well established even beforehand--and I think it would be by common sense, as well--that ban evasion ought to be discouraged, because it's a flagrant violation of the moderator's intent.
