I have two debates this is concerned with. My currently active one:
http://www.debate.org...

And my rather notorious one with Wylted:
http://www.debate.org...

On both debates there have been a lot of votes deleted, a lot of marginal votes that I am pretty sure would not have been deleted 3 months ago. Most of these deletions have been to my advantage, which is equally strange since what I see are clearly equally bad votes in my favor (such as Toxifrost's sources vote, which was obviously and evidentially false).

I am not sure what I am trying to assert, but so far there are two major problems:
1. Votes just dissapear without a trace, so there is no way to know what the vote that was deleted originally said.
2. It's rarely known why a vote was deleted

#2 is important for marginal votes. For example PGA posted a lengthy, albeit bad votes on my debate with Wylted. But the vote nonetheless clearly showed he read the entire debate, and he references arguments made towards the back end of the debate. I didn't see an obvious reason why it should be deleted.

So, I guess one suggestion might be that marginal votes should be posted to the comments when deleted with an explanation why it was deleted, or something. Just so that they are aware of the reasons for such. Otherwise it stirs uo controversy.

I fully support this proposal. But I need airmax's approval.

The normal protocol is to PM people (with the reason why their vote was removed), but I can't do so immediately if I'm not friends with the user and they are not accepting messages. So there is often a significant delay between when the vote is removed and when the person accepts my friend request. Posting the reasons for removal in the comments section would certainly make my life easier because I'd rather explain the reason for removal to the user while the vote is still fresh in my mind.

The vote discussed above (PGA's vote on the Envisage/Wylted debate) was removed for failing to state why Wylted had made better arguments. It was not a long RFD (if fit easily within the 1,000 character limit for RFDs). The biggest problem with it was that it said in essence that the debate was a draw and that Envisage had won Rounds 1 and 3. But then it voted for Wylted. I was unable to discern the reason that PGA thought Wylted had made a "more convincing argument."

Envisage, I agree if you look at the comments section -- where PGA argued with you for awhile after he voted -- it is evident that he read the debate. But arguing with the debater in the comments section doesn't count as part of the RFD. I'm not evaluating RFDs solely on whether I can ascertain whether the person read the debate. They also need to explain every single point they award. And PGA didn't explain his argument point vote.

I can now confirm that this will be done in the future.

Wow, it's really rare to see threads like these accomplish anything (not that that's anyone's fault, though).
