If you've been directed here, you have likely been observed feeding the troll. There are a few pointers you should be aware of:

1. The dialogue you are engaging in is not new, only the respondent (you) has changed. The troll requires new sources of emotional input to survive as its targets move on to more productive discussions.

2. The troll is feeding off of your emotions and you must identify them to be able to control them.
i. Pride. You may feel you have a superior argument and that you are going to show others that the troll is wrong. You may even feel like you can get through to the troll and convince it how utterly flawed its reasoning is. Regarding the former, your help is not needed; regarding the latter, you will fail since logical discourse is not what the troll is searching for.
ii. Anger. You will be baited by inflammatory comments which are designed to provoke an emotional reaction. Before you respond to try and "teach it a lesson," realize this is exactly what it wants and you cannot hurt it with your words. Instead, you are "feeding" it by displaying your own anger and lowering yourself to its level. This energizes the troll as well as justifies its existence here.

3. The quality of DDO rests on setting itself apart from common chatboards where crude discussions involving much hatred and very little reasonable dialogue are commonly conducted. In order to maintain a haven of well-structured discourse here, we should not actively invite those who seek to ruin it by playing emotional games with members and distracting from the quality discussions we are engaged in.

4. Please resist the urge to respond to the troll (ignoring it is important), and direct those who are being preyed-upon here so that they don't continue to feeding it.
Beliefs in a nutshell:
- The Ends never justify the Means.
- Objectivity is secondary to subjectivity.
- The War on Drugs is the worst policy in the U.S.
- Most people worship technology as a religion.
- Computers will never become sentient.
